Porto, you were amazing! ☕🤎
What a fantastic three days at Porto Coffee Week!
We’re back in the Algarve, with tired feet, happy hearts and plenty of great memories.
From sharing our coffees with new faces to catching up with familiar ones, meeting fellow roasters and exchanging ideas — it’s been a wonderful reminder of what makes the specialty coffee community so special.
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand, tasted our coffees, shared a conversation or simply came to say hello. Every connection means a lot to a small independent roastery like ours.
And of course, a big thank you to the organisers of Porto Coffee Week for bringing this wonderful community together.
We’re heading back to the roastery feeling inspired, grateful and already looking forward to the next adventure.

Three days of incredible coffee, inspiring conversations, familiar faces and plenty of new ones!
It’s been wonderful bringing a little taste of the Algarve to Porto, sharing our coffees and being part of such a passionate specialty coffee community.
A huge thank you to everyone who has stopped by, tasted our coffees, shared a story or simply said hello. You’re what makes events like this so special.
But we’re not finished just yet!

Day one of Porto Coffee Week, and we’re ready to share some great coffee, meet fellow coffee lovers and enjoy everything this wonderful coffee community has to offer.

Ever wondered how much fermentation can change the taste of coffee?
On Saturday 3 October, Al-Gharb Coffee Roasters is taking part in The Fermentation Project, a global coffee experiment created by James Hoffmann with coffee fermentation specialist Lucia Solis.
And we’d love you to experience it with us.
The experiment takes one coffee from Guatemala and processes it in four different ways — including a version with no fermentation, wild fermentation and two different inoculated fermentations.
The result is a rare opportunity to taste the same coffee side-by-side and discover what fermentation actually changes in the cup.
We’ll be holding a communal pre-cupping at Al-Gharb from 13:00–14:00, where we’ll prepare all four coffees, taste them together and compare our impressions.
Then at 15:00, James Hoffmann’s global livestream begins, connecting coffee drinkers and roasters taking part around the world.
You absolutely do not need to know anything about coffee cupping to join us. We’ll guide you through it.

☕ I didn’t start out as a coffee roaster. I just drank a LOT of coffee.
For years, coffee was simply coffee.
Filter coffee. Bean-to-cup. Capsules. Moka pots balanced on a camping stove while travelling through Scotland.
Then I tasted specialty coffee.
Suddenly coffee could be fruity, floral, chocolatey, sweet — and actually taste amazing without milk or sugar.
Curiosity took over.
I started reading. Then experimenting. Then roasting green coffee in a popcorn pot over a camping stove and smoking out the neighbourhood. 😬
Some of those early roasts were good.
Some were… absolutely terrible.
But that obsession with understanding what makes coffee taste the way it does eventually became Al-Gharb Coffee Roasters.
And the funny thing?
The more I learn about coffee, the more I realise how much there still is to learn.
