He ordered his Vizier to find a solution to keep him occupied during long, sleepless nights. His Vizier knew that the best way to entertain the Sultan was storytelling. He gathered the most skillful storytellers from the land who, instead of bringing him fairy tales, brought the sultan a recipe to try out every night saying ‘You’ve tried the rest, now try the best’. The activity worked so well that the Sultan became obsessed with food. He would cook well into the night and sleep during his hours of duty on the throne. And finally one night he vanished mysteriously only to be heard of when travelers visiting from faraway lands talked of ‘Chez Sultan’ with murmurings of a new restaurant near a bustling bazaar in Lahore - the city with a big heart and an even bigger appetite. The Sultan had at last found his home. He opened his doors to the food loving city and from then till now, those doors remain forever open, serving fresh food from morning to well into the night.
