Meet our Chicken Satay 🔥

Juicy chicken, marinated with lemongrass, garlic, chilli and warm spices, grilled until beautifully caramelised and lightly charred.

Served with our house-made peanut sauce and fresh pickles on the side.

A little sweet. A little smoky. A little spicy.

Now serving at Mariyah’s Den — Zamzama.

Dip. Bite. Repeat. 🥜🔥

Some dishes start as an idea in the kitchen.

And then they become your usual.

Over the years, we’ve watched that happen with our dumplings, our bowls, our noodles and our bao. Dishes we created became part of your lunches, family dinners, comfort meals and cravings.

And that still feels rather special.

Four years later, I’m still testing, tasting, adjusting — and still getting excited when something new finally feels ready to leave my kitchen.

This time, it’s Chicken Satay with handmade noodles, peanut sauce and achar.

Maybe it’ll simply be dinner.

Maybe it’ll become someone’s new usual. 🤍

We’ve been getting so many calls asking if Mariyah’s Den has closed.

No. ❤️

Bukhari was one chapter. Mariyah’s Den continues — and we’re already cooking up what comes next.

Come find us at Mariyah’s Den- Zamzama.

Some customers come for a meal.

And somewhere along the way, they become part of the story.

We’ve watched regulars become friends. We’ve watched children grow up. We’ve known babies before they were born — and then watched them sit at our tables and enjoy their first bowls of soup.

Camilla and her family are one of those stories.

A young four-year-old boy along with his parents, became one of our first little regulars — corn on the cob from the Bowl of Warmth and beef dumplings were his usual.

Another regular was expecting when we had just opened. Years later, seeing her little daughter sitting at Mariyah’s Den enjoying our soup made me realise just how much time had passed.

We talk about four years in terms of orders, sales and plates served.

But perhaps this is how I’ll remember them.

The conversations.
The familiar faces.
The children growing up.
And the people who just kept coming back.

We notice.

Thank you for growing with us. 🤍

Some chapters are harder to close than others. 🤍

On Sunday, August 16, we’ll serve our last dumplings at Mariyah’s Den – Bukhari.

This space has held busy nights, quiet afternoons, celebrations, conversations, familiar faces and thousands and thousands of dumplings. Most importantly, it has held all of you.

We’re closing this location, not Mariyah’s Den.

If Bukhari has been part of your Mariyah’s Den story, come by one more time this week. We’d love to see you.

Thank you for every meal, every visit and every memory made here.

One chapter closes. The dumplings continue. ♥️

Running a restaurant means accepting that not everyone will enjoy every dish. That’s part of hospitality.

If we’ve made a mistake—wrong order, poor quality, food that’s not up to our standards—we’ll always take responsibility and do our best to make it right.

But there’s an important difference between a mistake and a matter of personal taste.

Taste is subjective. One person may love a dish while another may not. That doesn’t automatically mean the meal was prepared incorrectly.

If something isn’t right, please tell us as soon as you notice. It gives us the opportunity to replace it, remake it, or find a solution.

When a meal has been enjoyed almost to the end and payment is then refused simply because the flavour wasn’t to someone’s liking, it places the entire cost on a small business.

We believe respect goes both ways.

Restaurants should stand behind their food.

Customers should stand behind their choices.

That’s what fairness looks like.

Behind the Counter is our space to share the realities of running a restaurant—openly, honestly, and with respect for both sides of the table.

Some compliments mean a little more.

Over the years, Mariyah’s Den has brought some remarkable people across my table. People whose work I’ve known, admired and respected long before I ever met them.

Deepak Perwani. Tapu Javeri. Suhaee Abro.

What stayed with me wasn’t their fame. It was how wonderfully normal, gracious and respectful they were — in conversation, with my team, and in the way they treated our little café.

And then there was something else.

They liked my food.

As a chef and a creative person, that meant more to me than I can quite explain. These are people who understand what it means to create something, put it into the world and spend years mastering your craft.

Fashion. Photography. Performance. Food.

Different mediums. Different journeys.

Creativity recognises creativity.

And sometimes, the people you admire remind you to value your own work too.

Some memories never leave you.

Back in December 2021, Mariyah’s Den had been open for barely a month. We were learning every day, and like every new restaurant, we made mistakes.

One evening, we served a plate of pan-seared dumplings that were overdone. Before our customer could say anything, I apologised and insisted on preparing a fresh plate.

A few days later, flowers arrived at the restaurant.

Inside was a handwritten note from Zoya.

She wasn’t thanking us because everything had been perfect. She was thanking us because we cared enough to make it right.

I kept those flowers until they dried. Four years later, I still remember how they made me feel.

Running a restaurant isn’t about never making mistakes. It’s about taking responsibility, learning, and caring for the people who choose to dine with you.

Thank you, Zoya, for a gesture I’ll never forget, and for reminding me that kindness leaves a lasting impression.

This is The Other Side of the Table—a series about the people and moments that have shaped Mariyah’s Den, one story at a time.

If Mariyah’s Den has ever been part of one of your memories, we’d love to hear your story. ❤️
