Mooncake Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival) weekend at China Mommy!☺️ Have you played pwa tong chiu yet?🎲🥮☺️

Mom’s “Tsit Ge Pwa” (Hungry Ghost Month) alay/offering last week.

She just got back from her annual temple visit in Taiwan so we didn’t get to do the alay on the 15th day of the lunar month (August 27), so she picked another good day. The rainy morning and gloomy day didn’t stop us from upholding this important Tsinoy tradition to make offerings to appease the spirits and protect us from harm.

As usual, she started the day early and cooked up 7 dishes for the alay. Apart from the candies, chocolates, biscuits, and other goodies, everything was homecooked by her and our E-e (her older sister).

I offered to help out in the kitchen but mom just sent me out and asked me to fold “Kim” (joss paper) for burning!😅

Year-in and year-out, this has been our tradition, and as I grow older, the more I appreciate it ☺️

Have you done your alays/offerings for ghost month yet?

New milestone unlocked for mommy! Yesterday, mom went to World Food Expo because she was invited by Prime Pacific Foods to showcase her famous lumpia in a demo using their Spring Home TYJ Spring Roll Pastry!☺️

Mom said she felt a bit embarrassed but also felt like a celebrity!😅 Thank you Prime Pacific for making mom feel special, and for all those who visited the booth and watched her!🤗

We went around WOFEX and she got inspired with all the ingredients and cooking materials. She’s in the mood for some R&D now. Her next plan? Check out the last pic for a clue!😉

Woke up feeling under the weather so I called mom, and right before lunch, I received her care package which includes our childhood comfort food, Misua Ko (soft misua in soup, with pork and egg).

Super comforting, and definitely felt like mom’s hug. Thank you Ma. I’m feeling so much better now 🤗
