Coffee and History ☕🇵🇭

Today in History: Battle of Mabitac 💥

125 years ago today, or on September 17, 1900, Filipino forces led by General Juan K. Cailles won a decisive victory against American troops under Colonel Cheatham in the Battle of Mabitac. It was one of the rare moments during the Philippine-American War when Filipino forces secured a hard-fought victory over the Americans, and it happened right in Mabitac, Laguna. ✊

Following this triumph, Cailles went on to become the first Governor of Laguna, continuing his legacy of leadership and service.

To honor the battle, a shrine was built on September 17, 2000, at the exact site in Mabitac where the fighting took place.

The owner of Cailles Coffee House (Lipa City Main Branch) often represents the Cailles family as a guest speaker during commemorative events, keeping the story alive for future generations. ❤️
