Rest in power, Keith Mann.

Thank you for your courageous actions and enormous contribution to the animal liberation movement. ✊🏼

Keith Mann was a legendary activist who had been fighting for animals since the early 1980s.

Mann was involved in many forms of activism. He was a public speaker, a campaigner, an author, and participated in direct action.

He was arrested in 1991 for burning multiple slaughterhouses as a member of the Animal Liberation Front. He escaped police and went on the run for ten months before being captured. He eventually served seven years in prison.

He served another six months in prison after confronting the director of a company tied to vivisection in court saying “your trouble has only just started, you will need to look under your bed.”

Mann was also involved in the infamous SHAC campaign, focusing on the airlines that allowed animals to be transported for vivisection.

ALERT: Pro-Palestinian Protester Assaulted and Illegally Detained by BGC Police

Edison Yu, a pro-Palestinian protester, was assaulted and illegally detained by BGC-Taguig City Police, preceding the anti-genocide demonstration held in front of the Israeli Embassy this morning of June 8th 2024. Police personnel attacked and apprehended the said protester for simply taking photos of the road blockage and police presence in the area.

Due to police pressure and intervention, this information only reached us by 3:00pm.

Youth for Palestine - Makati vehemently condemns this act of police violence against people simply practicing their freedom of expression. This act of brutality by the BGC-Taguig City Police shows not just their ignorance to the tragedies in Gaza, but also their complicity to US-Israel’s occupation and genocide of the land of Palestine.

Pro-Palestine protests around the globe had consistently been targeted by police and state violence at large, regardless of their legal and peaceful nature. This terrifyingly mirrors the attitude of the Israeli occupation; having no respect to legalities and human rights amidst their genocide.

We call on Mrs. Lani Cayetano and Mr. Bongbong Marcos to respond to this act of police violence and urge the release of Edison. BGC-Taguig City Police must be held accountable for their acts of brutality and disservice to the Filipino and Palestinian people.

Despite being named after the anti-imperialist revolutionary Andres Bonifacio, Bonifacio Global City (BGC) remains a stronghold for foreign and genocidal US-Israeli interests. We must not allow the violent suppression of nationalistic and anti-colonial spurs of oppressed people; let alone the blatant disrespect of our humanitarian freedoms and liberties.

Let us stand against these acts of violence against the people who choose to bravely denounce the genocide faced by the Palestinians in Gaza!

A group of animal rights advocates on Sunday assembled outside the Manila Zoo, where they paid tribute to Mali -- the zoo's lone elephant who passed away last week.

A VIGIL FOR MALI

When: Sunday, December 3, 2023,
3 PM onwards
Where: Manila Zoo, Malate, Manila

After living alone in a concrete pen for nearly 50 years, Mali the elephant died from congestive heart failure on Tuesday, November 28th. To remember Mali, who has been described as “one of the world’s saddest elephants,” animal rights activists and people of the public will gather peacefully at the Manila Zoo on Sunday, December 3rd at 3pm onwards.

Participants are encouraged to bring signs, placards and banners with messages that show their concerns and sadness regarding the passing of Mali, and as to why non-human animals don't deserve to be imprisoned inside zoos, marine parks and such.

Kami sa UgatLAHI Artist Collective ay nakiisa sa mariing pagkundena sa pagsampa ng kaso ng QCPD sa resident artist ng BAYAN na si Max Santiago at 3 pang iba na nanguna sa pag gawa ng effigy na "Doble Cara" nito lamang nakaraang SONA. Ito raw ay kaugnay ng paglabag sa Ecological Waste Act at Clean Air Act nang sunugin sa mismong kilos protesta ang effigy.

Ang effigy at ang mismong pagsusunog nito ay matagal nang bahagi ng paglulunsad ng mga malalaking kilos protesta. Isinasalarawan nito ang kurapsyon, kabulukan, at di makamamamayang anyo ng mga nagdaan at kasalukuyang rehimen, at ang pagsusunog ng effigy ay simbulo ng sukdulang galit ng taumbayan na sawa na sa pahirap at papet na administrasyon.

Ang pagsasampa ng kasong ito ng QCPD sa mga artista ng bayan ay nangangahulugan lamang ng panggigipit sa kalayaan sa pagpapahayag ng saloobin ng mamamayan. Hindi na bago ang ganitong pagpataw ng kaso na hango lamang sa isang teknikalidad, at samu’t-saring pamamaraan na ang isinagawa ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ng pagpapatikom sa pagpapahayag ng saloobin ng taong bayan. Sa katunayan, ito ay isang malinaw na pamamaraan ng kasalukyang administrasyon na supilin ang kanilang mga kritko katulad ng ginawa ng ama ni BBM na isang diktador at pasista.

Hindi ang pagsusunog ng effigy ang nakasisira sa kalikasan, bagkus ang mga malalaking kumpanya at mga pabrika nito na walang pakundangang sumasamsam ng ating likas yaman, ang nagbubuga ng maiitim na usok at nagtatapon ng mga dumi sa mga ilog at karagatan. Ang mga dambuhalang kompanya at ang mga gahamang mayari nito ang siyang dapat tutulan.

Kaya't naninindigan ang mga artista ng bayan na walang mali sa paglaban kundi may mali kaya tayo ay lumalaban!
