An additional 1,008,350 hectares has been recently implemented across six municipalities on top of the 1M-hectare marine protected area (MPA) in declared just last year.

Why are MPAs a big deal? Their implementation helps improve biodiversity maintenance, food security, sustainable livelihood, and ecotourism development.
