How to Know If a Coffee Shop Really Roasts Their Own Coffee?
Not all coffee shops roast their own beans—and that’s okay.
But if you’re curious whether a shop does,
here are a few simple signs:
>*They usually roast to order
Many small roasters avoid over-roasting in advance.
This helps keep the beans closer to their best flavor.
>*They allow the beans to rest
After roasting, coffee beans need time to rest and release gas.
Freshly roasted beans release gas (called degassing).
Good roasters allow the beans to "rest for a few days"
so the flavors can settle and open up properly.
Brewing too soon = flat or sour taste
Brewing after proper rest = balanced, aromatic, and smooth cup.
This resting period helps the flavors become smoother and more balanced before brewing.
>*They share basic details
You might notice they mention things like:
• roast date
• origin
• roast level
These small details often show care, not marketing.
>*They’re patient with the process
Roasting takes time. So does waiting for the beans to be ready.
Some roasters choose quality over speed—
and you can taste the difference.
Good coffee often comes from quiet, thoughtful work
