What makes Guatemalan coffee interesting?
It’s not simply because it comes from Guatemala.
It’s because, where and how the coffee grows can become part of what you taste in the cup.
🌋VOLCANIC SOILS
Guatemala is famous for its volcanic landscape. Many coffee-growing regions have mineral-rich volcanic soils, which provide a distinctive growing environment for coffee.
⛰️ HIGH ELEVATION
Many Guatemalan coffees are grown at relatively high elevations.
Cooler temperatures at higher elevations can slow cherry development, giving the coffee more time to develop sugars and complex flavors.
🌱 ARABICA VARIETIES
Guatemala produces many Arabica varieties, including Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai and others.
Different varieties can contribute different characteristics to the final cup.
🌦️ MICROCLIMATES
This is where it gets really interesting.
Guatemala has mountains, volcanoes, valleys and different weather patterns—creating many microclimates.
So two coffees from Guatemala can taste surprisingly different.
☕ WHAT CAN GUATEMALA TASTE LIKE?
Depending on the region, variety, processing and roast, Guatemalan coffee may show notes such as:
🍫 Chocolate
🍯 Caramel
🍊 Citrus
🍎 Fruit
🌰 Nuts
🌸 Floral or spice-like notes
These are tasting notes, not ingredients added to the coffee.
Just the character of the bean—revealed through brewing.
Because sometimes the best part of coffee…
is discovering what was already inside the bean. ☕🇬🇹
