Fried noodles we grew up eating… 🍜
Smoky, savory, and seriously satisfying.
Simple street-style noodles that don’t look fancy…
But once you taste it, you’ll understand why we loved it so much.
Back then, it often came wrapped in big leaves; warm in your hands, no fancy packaging, just real food.
You’d find them in small street-side shops around Yangon, in Chinatown, or even on the menu of local restaurants around the country — sometimes a bit unexpectedly, alongside Myanmar dishes.
I remember eating this at my grandma’s restaurant in the Dry Zone (Anyar) region of Myanmar during summer holidays.
Out of everything on the menu, this was one I kept going back to again and again… probably one of my last meals before heading back.
It was also one of those meals we looked forward to when my dad came home from work and brought something back.
We would wait for him at the top of the street, excited to greet him.
On his way home, especially when he had to work late, he’d pick up supper, sometimes si chat, snacks, or these fried noodles.
We’d touch his work bag to see if it was warm — not knowing what was inside yet, but super exited if it’s warm and quietly hoping it would be one of our favorite dishes like these noodles.
And when it turned out to be something like this… my sister and I would happily sit down and eat together, never looking up once, lol.
Sometimes there wasn’t quite enough for everyone, and my mum would smile and say she didn’t really like it. But looking back, we knew she was just letting us enjoy it.
Now we know this is one of her favorite dishes too… of course everyone would love this. Sorry mum for not realizing it back then.
Yes, I can say it with confidence again… everyone would love this.
No hype, no complicated ingredients… just real comfort food.
That’s why we’re serving it exactly the way we remember it now
and making new memories for others.
Try it once… it’s the kind of dish you’ll fall in love with. 🍜🔥
