🏠 If You’re Indoors: Drop, Cover, and Hold On!
When the shaking starts, protect yourself from falling objects — that’s what causes most injuries.
✅ DROP to your hands and knees to avoid being knocked over.
✅ COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand.
• If possible, crawl under a sturdy table or desk.
• If none nearby, move next to an interior wall (away from windows).
✅ HOLD ON to your shelter until the shaking stops. If there’s no shelter, keep covering your head and neck.
🚫 Don’ts Indoors:
• Don’t run outside — debris can fall from buildings.
• Don’t stand in doorways — modern ones don’t offer extra protection.
• Don’t use elevators.
• Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy furniture that could fall.
Special Situations:
🛏 In bed: Stay there! Protect your head with a pillow.
🏢 In a high-rise: Drop, Cover, and Hold On — avoid windows, and don’t use elevators.
🏬 In a crowded place: Stay low, protect your head, and move away from shelves or displays.

🚗 If You’re Driving or Outdoors
🚘 In a Vehicle:
• Pull over to a clear area, away from bridges, trees, poles, or wires.
• Stop and set the parking brake.
• Stay inside until the shaking stops.
🛣 Outdoors:
• Move to an open space, away from buildings and trees.
• Once clear, Drop, Cover, and Hold On to protect your head.
• Stay put until the shaking stops.

🚨 After the Earthquake
Aftershocks can follow — stay alert.
⚡ Expect aftershocks and be ready to Drop, Cover, and Hold On again.
🩹 Check for injuries — give first aid if needed, but don’t move the seriously hurt.
🥾 Wear sturdy shoes to avoid broken glass or debris.
🔥 Check for hazards:
• Smell gas? Open doors/windows and leave immediately — don’t switch anything on!
• Turn off the gas only if you smell it leaking.
📱 Stay tuned to news or alerts for safety updates.
If trapped:
• Cover your mouth with cloth to filter dust.
• Tap pipes or walls to signal rescuers.
• Use a whistle if you have one — shout only when absolutely needed.
