Jelizioso Food Haven has been in business for three years which started as a food cart offering easy to prepare snack items such as lasagna, pancakes, baked mac and the like. Its road to becoming an official food service establishment commenced when Majestic Management, which shut its food stand, offered its spot in the South Central Square food court to Maria Loieda after tasting her delectable c
uisine during her food exhibit that she conducted the weekend before Majestic formally closed its establishment. With a capital of half a million pesos, Maria Loieda and her husband officially launched their first ever food service business employing only five personnel including Maria Loieda, who obtained short-term culinary courses, as the head cook. Gaining a share in the market was never easy for Jelizioso Food Haven. Its first six months incurred a loss and was only recovered after another six months of operation. It took a year before Jelizioso boomed into a renowned Filipino cuisine provider attracting hundreds of students and supermarket goers. It has doubled its income after recovering from its previous loss, and succeeded in eliminating its two major competitors during that time namely “Iyoy’sTinola and Barbecue Station” and “Essog Prime Foods”. Just like any other business establishments, Jelizioso also faces some difficulties. Its inventory management has always been its major concern due to the subjective measurement of the foods being served by its employees which made it hard to account for the total sales. Trust issue for its employees is also a constant concern considering that employee theft was already present in Jelizioso’s history. Its management is currently working on strategies to improve its administration as part of its proposed business model. It is anticipated to launch more stalls and food carts in the different shopping malls of Cebu as soon as it attains the best timing and finds the best venue.
