🏝🐟🍲πŸ’ͺπŸ“–πŸŽ‰
After a long wait, Lutong Baybay is set for launch! This seafood recipe + food narrative zine centers the voices of women from 6 coastal barangays in highlighting the importance of Dumaguete’s rich marine biodiversity in sustaining the needs of several communities in the city. From Bantayan to Banilad, Lutong Baybay, through food recipes, shows us the generational struggle of fisherfolks and how we are inextricably connected to the sea.

πŸ™Œ πŸ›Ί Find us this Friday (April 1), at the NoTo174 Protest along the Boulevard, and score a copy of this zine if you can. E-copies of Lutong Baybay will also be made available at a donate-what-you-can-scheme via the Bantayan Community Pantry FB page.

πŸ“’ Physical copies: Lutong Baybay will be sold at Php 150 apiece at the Friday Protest. What better place to launch the zine than where it was first conceived!

πŸ€– E-copies: Donate what you can and send proof of donation (screenshot/photo/etc) over at the Bantayan Community Pantry page. Once acknowledged, an e-copy of the zine will be sent your way. All proceeds will go to our partner fishing communities.

Through the collaboration of Bantayan Community Pantry, Kabataan Para sa Karapatan - Negros Oriental, the women of the coastal communities, and their families, Lutong Baybay was created.
It amplifies the generational struggle of fisherfolk for the basic right of access to food, of secure livelihood, of sustainability and development for all.

Lutong Baybay is not just a seafood recipe zine, It is a love letter to our home our community and the fisherfolk that work tirelessly to provide. It shares the narratives and collective stories of local women echoing the need for the essential ecosystem of their communities and the seas: for their survival as much as its conservation. Through this collection of recipes we are able to share in that love.

Pre-orders available soon.

Thank you UNA for Women for donating funds for menstrual products, baby needs, and medicine! Covid-19 has caused many individuals and families to lose some or all of their income. Often, when there are times of crisis, the needs of women and children are not prioritized. It is up to both our local and global community to help fill these needs. We are thankful for the support of UNA for Women and we hope to continue the spirit of Bayanihan through Pride and in the coming months. Thank you to everyone who has taken part inthis effort towards mutual aid.

Maayong buntag!

With your contributions, the Bantayan Community Pantry has continued to provide food and care packages to local households severely affected by the pandemic.

Last Tuesday, teaming up with our Barangay Center, we have been able to distribute 475 kilograms of rice, as well as medicine, hygiene products, and other essentials.

We are also very grateful for the presence of our volunteers who have made the time to help us with sourcing and repacking food and other essentials shared to the community last Friday.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in this effort towards mutual aid.

Daghang salamat, mga ka-community pantry!

Almost a month has passed since we first opened the Community Pantry at the Bantayan waiting shed. Now, we see several initiatives have sprung across Dumaguete, as more folks extend the spirit of to help each other weather this pandemic.

The two pantries in Bantayan received contributions such as rice, mongo beans, dried fish, and other staple goods. Contributions specifically for women and mothers were the highlight today, as feminine sanitary products, medicines and baby milk were also among the donated goods.

Thanks to the generosity of spirit of so many Dumagueteños, around 220 people have benefited from the pantry today. We are also grateful to our new volunteers, who made sure that the pantry operation ran smoothly and followed safety protocols.

May we all foster solidarity in our communities. Share-share ra ug tabang-tabang ra ta.

Daghang salamat sa tanan!

Update:

It has been 3 weeks since the community pantry in Barangay Bantayan started operating. Every week presents new challenges to the volunteers (from keeping track of the contributions to repacking and managing the pantries), but we are happy to share the news that an average of 300 people have benefited from the pantries today.

The community pantry has highlighted the attitude of the people - a manifestation of empathy as a core value of Filipinos.

Today we were assisted by 8milers, a delivery service company, in transporting some of the donations to our pantry.

We are very thankful to all our partners in helping us in this endeavor. In such times of difficulty, our strength is in our unity. May we all continue to foster solidarity in our communities.

Daghang salamat sa tanan!
