HOME AGAIN: The Lost Marian Image of Tanza Parish
After many years of searching, the first image of the Immaculate Conception that once graced the Main Altar of Tanza Parish has finally been found, a silent witness to the early life of our parish and the deep Marian devotion of its people.
Tanza Parish, carved from San Jose Parish and entrusted to the care of the Mill Hill Missionaries during its formative years, began as a humble community of faith. In those early days, the church was a simple chapel, yet rich in devotion, prayer, and missionary zeal. It was within this setting that the first image of the Immaculate Conception stood at the altar, accompanying generations of faithful through Masses, novenas, and the daily struggles and hopes of parish life .
The rediscovery of this image reconnects us to a time when missionary priests walked the grasslands of Tanza, strengthened the faith amid challenges, and cultivated a strong love for Our Lady among the people. More than an artifact, the image is a living reminder of our roots, of a parish shaped by sacrifice, perseverance, and constant trust in God under the maternal guidance of Mary .
As this sacred image returns to our story, may it deepen our appreciation of our heritage and inspire us to continue the journey of faith handed down by those who came before us.
The authenticity and historical identity of this image were confirmed through the testimony of faithful witnesses: Sister Judith Seruales, now 96 years old and a devoted member of the Legion of Mary since the 1940s; Bro. Randey Aguisanda, was a member of the Junior Legion of Mary, was assigned as a parish catechist during the May Flower Offering, during which the same image was used for Flores de Mayo; and Bro. Raymundo Andrino, a former Altar Server of Tanza Parish. Their shared recollections affirm that this image truly belongs to the early devotional life of the parish and to the hearts of the people of Tanza.
