In observance of Linggo ng mga Wika, the Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center presents “Lingua't Wika”, a week-long series exploring the many languages of Cagayan through words and phrases that carry our history, identity, and wit.

Lingua’t Wika, or, “language and language,” in both Latin and Tagalog is our playful yet thoughtful nod to the beauty of linguistic diversity. It is a celebration of how words, in all their shapes and sounds, weave the fabric of our motherland. Think of it as “language in every tongue,” wherein, it is a journey into voices both familiar and rare.

For today’s , we bring you “Pa’nang" (pronounced /paʔnang/). In the Isnag and Malaueg language, "pa'nang" roughly translates to "much" or "a lot". It's used as an adverb to denote excess, a large quantity, or a high degree.

Examples:

Isnag:

"Pa'nang nga ay-ay": would mean "a lot of things" or "many things".
"Pa'nang nga ugot": could mean "very cold" or "too cold".

Malaueg :

“Makasamyu ka pa’nang!”: means that you are too noisy.“
“Nasakit pa’nang ya uluk.”: translates to “my head hurts badly.”

How would you use these words in your own language?

Last night, we witnessed one of the most anticipated astronomical events as asteroid 2024 RW1 ( ) entered Earth, lighting up the sky at midnight.

Did you know that in addition to the term "bulalakaw," which refers to a meteor in some Filipino languages, we also have our own native terms for meteors here in Cagayan?

When Things Don’t Make Sense
By Maloi Malibiran-Salumbides

But when your situation doesn’t make any sense, I am sure that God is doing something important. So we better be still, listen and learn.

Magandang araw, ako si Maloi Malibiran-Salumbides para sa Protips, partner mo sa inspiradong trabaho at negosyong umaasenso.

Ang sabi sa Isaiah 55:8-9, "“For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Kapag mahirap maunawaan ang sitwasyong kinahaharap mo ngayon, isipin mong ang kaparaanan ng Diyos ay palaging mayroong mabuting ibubunga. So what do we do when things don’t make sense in our lives and our work?

1) Trust God. Kung hindi mo maintindihan ang mga nangyayari sa iyo, sa Diyos mo ilagak ang tiwala mo. Ang panahon at ang tao ay nagbabago, pero ang Diyos ay mananatiling totoo sa kung sino Siya. God is unchanging. His Word remains true and consistent. Kaya pede tayong magtiwala sa Kanya.

2) Stay Put. Huwag kang agad-agad aalis o magreresign dahil sa hindi mo naiintindihan ang ginagawa ng mga boss ninyo. Unless it is the Lord who tells you to go, don’t go. God is not after our comfort but our character. At kadalasan ilalagay Niya tayo sa mahihirap na sitwasyon upang matuto at tumatag tayo.

3) Learn as Much as You Can. Ano ang mga pwede mong matutunan sa mga sitwasyong hindi mo maintindihan at hindi mo kontrolado? Maaari Kang matuto ng kababang-loob o humility. Knowing that there are many things which are beyond your control. Pwede ka ring matutong unawain ang iba. Minsan, parang walang sense ang sang pangyayari dahil hindi ito ayon sa gusto mong mangyari. Instead of forcing others to see things the way you see it, learn to understand where others might be coming from.

Maraming oportunidad na nagbubukas para sa atin when things don’t make much sense. There’s the opportunity to trust God, to be still and to learn as much as we can.

BE A BLESSING IN THE WORKPLACE TODAY!
