THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN BREWING DRIP COFFEE BAGS
1. Water Temperature
Not only quality, temperature of the water can also determine the quality of the coffee you brew! The most suitable temperature for brewing is around 80° - 90°C, which ideally is 87°C

2. Water Composition
As mentioned above, stick to your preferences with the steeping time. Every 10 grams of drip coffee bags only requires 150-160 ml of water in total (including for the blooming process). If you don't want it to be too thick, you can use 185-190 ml of water.

3. Don’t drink it immediately
Never serve hot and piping coffee, let it cool to 65 °C - 79 °C so you can taste it right without burning your tongue.

❌❌❌FACT

Westerners don’t like Vietnamese coffees for 3 reasons:

👉Vietnamese coffees are overroasted and contain too many artificial flavours (chocolate, maize…).

👉Vietnamese coffees favour robusta grain, abundant crop in Vietnam, over arabica.

👉Vietnamese blends are not suited to expresso.

As a result, a lot of tourists are dissatisfied the popular coffee they find by the sidewalks that give them a bad impression of locally brewed coffe blends.

❓What makes Vietnamese coffee taste so distinctive and delicious? It is natural or enhanced with artificial favors?

👉People who love Vietnamese coffee just have a sweet tooth.

The key ingredient of Vietnamese coffee isn’t the coffee; it’s the can of condensed milk in the background.

Basically, you pour a ton of condensed milk at the bottom of the cup, put the Phin on top of it (it’s that metal dripper they use to make coffee in Vietnam, think of it as a half-assed mix between a French Press and an German drip) then brew the coffee, letting it fall into the condensed milk below, then topping it off with a few cubes of ice.

You can see how ridiculously sweet that is going to be. That is a ridiculous amount of condensed milk.

The bean used is also usually Robusta; Vietnam is a place where Robusta is easy to grow but the highland-loving Arabica, not so much. So the Vietnamese used Robusta mostly and this became their coffee of choice. Robusta is a much bolder, stronger bean than the often watery and thin Arabica, that is what gives Vietnamese coffee that kick that Westerners are usually not used to (because they mostly drink Arabica).

Vietnamese coffee is strong, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from how sweet it is. That’s what makes their coffee so distinctive. It is for the most part all natural; it’s just coffee, milk and sugar basically.

❓What is the best kind of coffee❓

👉Vietnamese Style Coffee consists of a 2cm layer of sweetened condensed milk at the bottom and a layer of coffee dropped from the phin-filter on top of the cup.

It's because of the real quality of the coffee being filtered with the phin-filter and then mixed with the condensed milk - this combination just works to amaze your taste.

The beans are roasted long enough to darken the drip (more black than brown, brown colored coffee is considered as "weak" coffee in Vietnam, just a perspective though), and are not ground too finely as the phin-filter would take quite long for the coffee to go through.

Even though the phin-filter doesn't produce crema from the coffee as the Italian coffee machine normally does (the crema contains 2% fat when correctly extracted, more pleasure to taste), yet the taste without crema in our Vietnamese coffee is smooth and best when serving with ice.

Now, what is best about Vietnamese coffee is not much about the coffee itself, it's about something else. It is when you get hold of a cup with the filter on top of it at a warmly crowded street corner café - you sit there and watch every drop of it coming through the filter and landing on the milk - yes every drop so you decide the level of caffeine for your intake. In a mean time, you talk to your friends or read a newspaper early in the morning. You feel the sense of happiness that time brings to you, not so usual.

❓If you put coffee into tea bags, could you brew coffee on the go like that?

👉The short answer is YES, you can brew coffee in tea bags.

There are companies that offer the convenience of coffee in drip bags.

The bags are a little larger than standard tea bags and contain a medium-fine grind. Seep time in hot water 205° F is about 5 minutes or overnight if you prefer cold brew. The flavor profile is much like immersion brewing rather than drip.

If you want more control over the flavor and freshness of your coffee, I recommend grinding the beans of your choice and filling your own bags. And there you have it 👉 drip bag coffee on the go!
