Today, we honor the heroes of our history. But in times like these, we are reminded that heroism is not only found in the pages of our past.
It is in the Filipino who waded through floodwaters to rescue a loved one.
It is in the neighbor who shared food and shelter.
It is in the communities that come together when help is needed most.
These past few days, many Filipino families have once again been left dealing with the devastating effects of flooding. Even some of our own staff were affected, with their homes and families bearing the weight of the disaster.
And while we will always admire the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, we also believe that Filipinos deserve more than simply being resilient.
We deserve solutions.
We deserve infrastructure that protects communities.
We deserve proper flood control and drainage systems.
We deserve disaster preparedness that works before tragedy strikes, not only assistance after it happens.
And most importantly, we deserve leaders and institutions that are accountable for building a safer future for everyone.
Resilience should never become an excuse for the same problems to keep happening.
This National Heroes Day, may we remember that being a hero does not mean silently enduring everything.
Sometimes, being a hero means speaking up, demanding accountability, and fighting for the future our families and communities deserve.
Let us continue to look after one another, but let us also continue to ask for better.
Para sa Pilipinas. Para sa bawat Pilipino. ๐ต๐ญ
