One day, while I was seated inside Kaninderia (Cuppy’s partner restaurant)—Rickah, our Boracay sales staff, approached me.
“Ma’am, a family just bought 8 cups. One of them is celebrating their birthday, should we offer them something?”
Without hesitation, I told Rickah, “Yes, let’s give them a complimentary cup.”
Rickah smiled softly and went back outside to attend to them. I then stood up and went after her.
“Hi!” I enthusiastically greeted our customers with a happy grin. “I’ve been told one of you is celebrating your birthday—Happy birthday! Thank you so much for trying the ice cream.”
We then had a quick chat before I asked if I could snap this photo of them. Nothing fancy, just something to remember this moment by.
Moments like this humbly remind me of when we had our popup in Siargao, selling the ice cream by ourselves—sweating our asses off.
But it was never just about selling ice cream. It was about the connections formed in those fleeting moments—like the subtle glimmer in someone’s eyes as you hand them a simple cup of ice cream, the shared smiles, and the meaningful stories exchanged with people from every corner of the world. Each person carried with them a piece of their journey, a glimpse into a life so different yet deeply human, leaving behind lessons and perspectives one could truly learn from.
I’m really glad I was there at the shop that day. It serves as a reminder of why Cuppy stands today as it is—a humble ice cream shop that does more than serve delicious treats. It’s a space that creates an unforgettable experience—a story to bring with you, wherever you may go.
To date, I have already lost track of how many people have tried our ice cream—and for that, I am forever grateful. Because that means we have been constantly growing. And I know that thousands—millions even—more people will get to try it.
Many of them will keep coming back, maybe not even just for the ice cream itself, but for the memory and the feeling that comes with it. The feeling of shared joy, the kind that makes someone remember not just the taste, but the moment itself.
