Lutong Nanay - the Origin Story
"wala tayong puwesto, wala silang pupuntahan, kaya pagkain natin ang pupunta sakanila"
It has already been over a year since we started Lutong Nanay, a family-owned business, based on a concept of home-cooked meals using recipes that were passed down from generation to generation.
This venture started after several house transfers. We started with almost nothing. We did not even have any location or place to start with. What we only had was each other and a great passion to serve legazpeños meals that we also have a chance to have feasted on as a family.
It has been two months since a major drawback in our family happened, two of our breadwinners in the family automatically had no job, another one member already resigned to her previous job, hoping to land for another opportunity, but still nonetheless jobless at that time. For short, three of the breadwinner of our home had no job. With an ongoing debt, we had no choice but to survive and find another means of income. Were we scared? Yes, to the point of insanity. Did we starve? No, and why is that so? It is because we know how to cook! We had an idea, our Nanay was currently operating on a small BBQ stall just outside our home, it was not big at all, but boy, we surely made our neighbors happy every time that BBQ stall opens. We always had that BBQ stall in all the houses that we lived in. It became a part of our home. We did not have tables for our customers to eat on, it was just a plain and simple "turo-turo" approach. You tell us what you want, we cook it then you take it to the comforts of your home.
