Fu Bear in Deep Thinking
Coffee Painting by Ian Inoy, MFAD
Artist’s Statement:
For Basilio’s Muni Muni line, I created a piece that feels deeply personal to me, a quiet confession painted in coffee. At its center, a bear sits alone by the shore, cradling a warm cup as he gazes over still water disturbed only by the softest ripples. There are no grand movements, no crashing waves, just breath, warmth, and silence.
I began the painting using Basilio coffee itself, letting its stains bloom and settle across the canvas like thoughts slowly forming.
The earthy pigments carried the scent and soul of the drink, becoming more than just a medium, they became the atmosphere. From that foundation, I illustrated the bear as a reflection of what muni muni means to me: the courage to sit with yourself, to listen inward, to find comfort in your own company.
In his stillness, there is strength. In his solitude, there is peace. The piece is an ode to those rare, unguarded moments when we allow ourselves to pause, sip slowly, and feel completely present, body, mind, and spirit aligned in the quiet.
This is the final artwork for our three blends. This is a collaborative work with local artists to share their work through coffee.
