Colegio de San Jose, Jaro, Iloilo City, Inc. honors the Spirit uniting millions of Filipinos in EDSA People Power Revolution

Today, February 25, we join the rest of the nation in remembering the historic EDSA People Power Revolution. In solidarity with Catholic educational institutions across the Philippines, our school will observe a special non-working holiday as a tribute to this significant moment in our country's history.

We take this time to honor the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and democracy during those pivotal days in 1986. The People Power Revolution, which took place from February 22 to 25, was a peaceful uprising that led to the end of an authoritarian regime. It was a movement sparked by the call of the late Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin, uniting millions of Filipinos in EDSA on a collective stand for justice and free elections. After four days of unwavering determination, prayers, and bloodless revolution, the Filipino people succeeded, and Corazon Aquino was sworn in as the new President, marking a new chapter for our country.

Although the government now recognizes February 25 as a special working holiday, we choose to pause and reflect on its importance. By taking this time, we pay tribute to the courage and resilience of those who stood up for what was right.

We encourage our students, faculty, and staff to reflect on the values that defined this moment in our history—courage, solidarity, and compassion. May the spirit of People Power continue to inspire us to work towards a society built on justice, freedom, and unity.
