K H A I R A
One of my favorite phrases as an event stylist—one that I will always remember hearing from a client—is:
“Ikaw na bahala, Sir.”
For me, those words are more than just permission to create. They are a beautiful expression of trust. They mean that the client is giving me the freedom to transform an idea into something beyond what they may have imagined.
And that was exactly how this wedding decoration for Sir Ric James and Ma’am Khaira began.
From the very first planning stage, this was already a design that had taken shape inside my mind. The vision was to create a romantic garden reception beside the lake at Sta. Barbara Heights—a setting where nature, flowers, elegant details, and the surrounding landscape would become part of the wedding experience.
From Plan A to Plan B
The original concept was Plan A: a completely outdoor garden reception, allowing the couple and their guests to fully experience the beauty of the surroundings.
But when planning an outdoor event, especially during the rainy season, we always have to prepare for the unexpected. In the afternoons, rain can come without warning. While we cannot control the weather, we can always prepare for it.
And so came Plan B—bringing the reception under a beautifully structured roof while preserving the original garden-inspired concept.
The challenge was not simply to put up a roof. The challenge was to make sure that the roofing would not compromise the original vision.
Instead, the structure became another canvas for the design.
The ceiling was transformed into a soft white canopy lined with countless strands of delicate fairy lights, creating a magical overhead glow while maintaining the openness and elegance of the garden setting. The result was a reception that remained connected to nature while providing comfort and protection for everyone.
The entire reception was envisioned in a sophisticated palette of white, ivory, soft greens, and subtle gold accents, allowing the natural beauty of the venue to remain visible while creating a timeless and romantic atmosphere.
The centerpiece of the stage is an impressive fan-shaped installation of translucent, petal-like panels, arranged dramatically behind the couple’s seating area. The sculptural backdrop resembles an unfolding flower or radiant garden bloom, giving the stage a strong visual identity without overpowering the floral arrangements.
At the heart of the stage sits an elegant gold-trimmed cream settee, surrounded by an abundant landscape of white flowers. Layers of blooms spill across the stage, creating a soft, organic garden effect and framing the couple’s seat as the focal point of the entire reception.
Above it all hangs a magnificent chandelier, adding a touch of classic elegance and creating a beautiful contrast against the contemporary sculptural backdrop.
The white aisle extends from the foreground toward the stage, creating a clean and dramatic visual pathway leading directly to the couple.
Instead of overwhelming the aisle with heavy décor, the design uses clusters of delicate white flowers, clear glass vessels, and glowing candles along the sides. The transparent glass allows the candlelight and flowers to blend naturally with the garden surroundings.
The arrangement creates a feeling that guests are walking through a quiet, elegant garden filled with flowers and light, gradually arriving at the heart of the celebration.
On both sides of the aisle, the reception tables were arranged symmetrically, creating balance and allowing the stage to remain the undeniable focal point.
Long tables dressed in white linens are surrounded by elegant wooden chairs, while the table settings incorporate clear glassware, slender candles, and delicate floral arrangements.
The abundance of glass elements keeps the tables visually light and airy, while the candlelight adds warmth and intimacy.
The combination of white florals, transparent glass, candlelight, and warm lighting creates a refined garden-reception atmosphere—luxurious without feeling excessive.
Perhaps one of the most magical details of the reception is above the guests.
The white tent ceiling becomes a sky of tiny lights, with numerous strands of fairy lights running across the canopy. During the celebration, these lights create the feeling of dining beneath a field of stars.
This was especially important after moving from Plan A to Plan B.
The roof was not allowed to feel like a compromise.
Instead, it became part of the experience.
What started as a necessary solution for the possibility of rain became an opportunity to create an even more immersive atmosphere—one where the guests could enjoy the beauty of the garden while being surrounded by a canopy of light.
This wedding is a reminder of why I love being an event stylist.
Behind every beautiful setup is a process of imagining, planning, adjusting, solving problems, and sometimes completely changing the original plan—all while keeping the heart of the design intact.
For Ric James and Khaira, the phrase “Ikaw na bahala, Sir” became the beginning of a creative journey.
From an idea in my mind, to Plan A, to Plan B, and finally to a real garden celebration beside the lake of Sta. Barbara Heights—the goal remained the same:
To create a wedding setting that feels romantic, elegant, personal, and unforgettable.
Because sometimes, the best designs begin with nothing more than a beautiful venue, a vision, and a client who trusts you enough to simply say—
“Ikaw na bahala, Sir.”
And this is what that trust became.
