Here are my personal road rules, and feel free to disagree:
1. Use signal lights. It was there for a reason, not just an accessory but to communicate with the other road users. Use them well.
2. Change lane, one lane at a time and not a sudden 2 lane change. And please if you'll make the other vehicle hit their breaks when you change lane, just don't attempt, change lane only when its free and open.
3. Know your exit points. If the road sign says take this lane for this particular exit point, please do, wag matigas ulo, or else gawa ka sarili mong road.
4. Right of way is not inherent, it is a right given to you by the other motorist, so if they did not give in huwag ng ipilit, you have nothing to lose, let it go.
5. When its 0 to 10 kph on the road, just be on your lane, please, where can you possibly go? One car ahead? Do not stress yourself and others too much, pinapahirapan mo lang sarili mo, umalis ka ng maaga next time, sa ngayon tangapin mo na late ka at manahimik sa linya mo, or else, gawa ka sarili mong road.
6. Keep safe distance. Do not tailgate. Give your self enough space. 3 counts would not be enough if you run at 80 to 100, give it 6 counts. It will just be a milliseconds difference, wala mawawala (nothing but your ego) if you keep a safe distance .
7. Maintain 8-second vision. Know what lies ahead. Maging mapagmasid at handa.
8. Respect pedestrian lanes and people using it. People and machine do co-exist on the road. Make it happen. Lower speed when approaching a pedestrian please (and also shools and hospitals). Everyone is entitled for a safe walk across roads.
9. Wear seat belts. Not because the law says so, but because your life is precious.
10. Put down those headlights low. Yes, yes, yes, you've got nice lightings, but please never use them to put someone blind. Know exactly when to use them.
11. Learn to let go. You may come across an arrogant, irresponsible driver, if none got hurt (except your ego) and nothing harmful happen, forgive and just let it go, besides, probability of seeing that driver again is so small.
12. And lastly, pray before hitting the road.
