Well, I bet had they tasted our own SATTI signature dish of Tausig; readers poll would rank TAUSUG SATTI on the TOP 5 list! Can we claim authenticity of SATTI in terms of origin? Well, SATTI Tausug style is intrinsically indigenous to our culture in appearance and in taste but of course we, Muslim Tausugs, must admit with pride that it bears mid-eastern with a dash of Asian fusion! The satti dish entails a yummy bite-sized marinated beef and chicken meat (and sometimes its liver) skewered in tiny barbecue sticks; it goes with spicy hot yet sweet red orange coloured sauce; swimming in that satti sauce are slices of tahmu. What is tahmu? Tahmu is rice cooked or steamed inside small diamond shaped baskets that are woven out of coconut palm fronds called lukay in Bahasa Sug. Tahmu just like the sauce are both essential to SATTI dish. It doesn't matter what gender you are but it feels like conceiving actually ;-) ; well, the craving for satti must be satiated at once. You scour the city but you can't find it anywhere in Davao. The urge has gotten to the point when you feel like a vampire or a homing pigeon flying straight to home where your heart is. You wouldn't even think twice of buying a plane ticket just to satisfy that craving for satti. My sisters didn't! And when you have no moolah or money, sabar ....! Sleep your craving away! :P
