Long weekend? Let’s head up to Buda. 🌿

August isn’t over yet, which means the Kadayawan spirit is still very much here. And what better way to keep it going than to get out of the city, take the road up, and spend the day somewhere cooler?

Chase the cool air, roll the windows down, and let the winding mountain roads lead you up. The cold breeze hits different when you know you’re getting away for a while.

Then, treat yourself at Kaizen Buda. 🍜

You’ve already made the trip, so make it worth it. Sit down, order something good, take in the mountain views, and keep the Kadayawan mood going a little longer.
Because August isn’t done yet. The celebration isn’t either.😉

"𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁?"🥭

We get why you’d ask.

Because at first, it doesn’t seem to belong. Japanese food, Filipino ingredients, a dessert most people associate with Thailand, 𝘀𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲?

But if you know Kaizen Buda, you’ll understand where it all began.

Our Mango Sticky Rice was born in the mountains of Davao, long before we brought it down to the city.

Back then, we noticed people would make the long drive to Buda for more than just the view. They came for the cold weather, the fog, the quiet, and the simple comfort of sikwate and p**o shared with the people they came with.

And we thought: what if we made something of our own that belonged in that same moment?

Well, we had the mangoes, we had Filipino kakanin, we had Buda, so we created our own version.

And this is where it gets controversial.
“But that’s not authentic Thai Mango Sticky Rice.”

We know.

𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲.

We weren’t trying to bring Thailand to Davao. We were taking inspiration from something we loved and asking ourselves what it could become in our own home.
The Philippines is blessed with incredible mangoes, Davao has them in abundance, and Filipino food has always had a way of taking something simple and turning it into something deeply comforting.

So why not make a Mango Sticky Rice that tastes like us?

What started as a mountain dessert became something people would actually drive for. Then, as more people discovered it, we eventually brought it down to the city.

And somewhere along the way, it stopped being just a dish on our menu, it became part of our story.
A story that started in Buda.
A story rooted in Davao.
A story shaped by Filipino taste.
A story that is proudly our own.

Because being original doesn’t mean inventing something nobody has ever seen.
Sometimes, it means taking inspiration from the world and making something that could only have come from home.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝘀. 𝗜𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻.

But what makes it so hard to resist? 😉

Kadayawan may be celebrated every August, but here in Buda, our appreciation for the Matigsalug and the 11 Tribes of Davao goes beyond the festivities. We see and celebrate their presence every day, in the simple moments when we see them outside our store, sharing their culture, crafts, and traditions with our guests.

We can’t celebrate Kadayawan without remembering where our pride comes from. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗨𝟯𝟬 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹💛🧡💚✨

Some things simply become part of home. They live in the streets we grew up in, the celebrations we look forward to, the stories we share, and the people who make a place feel like it belongs to us.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗨𝟯𝟬 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. ✨

Since 2016, it has been part of Kaizen’s story, and part of countless Dabawenyo tables. Crisp on the outside, rich and comforting at the center, finished with our signature Presidential Sauce. More than a roll, it has become a little piece of Davao that people can come back to.

And maybe that’s what Kadayawan reminds us of most.

That home isn’t just a place but a feeling. It’s the people you celebrate with, the memories you carry, and the familiar things that somehow always bring you back.
So as the streets fill with color, the drums echo through the city, and Davao comes alive once again, we celebrate the home we’re lucky to call ours.

We came across this one and couldn’t help but feel a little extra grateful today. 🤍

They drove all the way from Davao to Kaizen Buda just to eat with us. The trip was long and rainy, but somehow it turned into more than just a food trip, just the two of them, good food, mountain weather, and time with the dogs. 🐶🤍

Maybe that’s what we love most about Buda, the journey, the people you bring with you, the little moments in between, and the memories you take home.
