JUST IN: The weather bureau PAGASA has officially classified as a super typhoon.

As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Leon (international name Kong-rey) was located 360 km east of Calayan, Cagayan. The storm boasts maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near its center, with gusts reaching up to 230 km/h. It is moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 km/h.

FOR INFORMATION | Due to extreme bad weather condition brought by Tropical Depression Kristine over the last few days where falling logs and debris were observed along the trail to Mt. Buribid that requires immediate clearing operation, hiking activity in Mt. Buribid will be temporarily suspended starting today until further notice. All pending bookings will be considered for rescheduling once the ecotourism activity resumes.

This will also pave way to revisit policies on booking system, carrying capacity and more capacity-building program for our local guides. Rest assured that all activities will be fast-tracked so as not to prolong this suspension.

Tropical Depression Kristine is moving west-southwestward over the Philippine Sea. The center is located 870 km east of Eastern Visayas (13.2ยฐN, 132.6ยฐE). Maximum sustained winds are 55 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h. The central pressure is 1000 hPa.

TCWS No. 1 is in effect for:
Luzon: Catanduanes, Masbate, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, and eastern Quezon
Visayas: Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Biliran, and Southern Leyte
Mindanao: Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte

Heavy rainfall is expected, and strong to gale-force gusts are possible in coastal and upland areas of:

Today (21 October): Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, southern Palawan, Siquijor, Bohol, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, BARMM, Sarangani, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental

Wednesday (23 October): MIMAROPA, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Moderate to rough seas are expected in coastal waters of:

Up to 4.5 m: Isabela, Aurora, Polillo Islands, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and eastern Cagayan, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.
Up to 4.0 m: Batanes, remaining Cagayan, eastern Quezon, remaining eastern Bicol Region, and eastern Eastern Samar.
Up to 3.0 m: Ilocos Region, Dinagat Islands, and Davao Region.

Kristine is expected to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 12 hours and may reach typhoon category by Thursday evening or Friday morning before making landfall over northeastern Cagayan.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take necessary precautions. Monitor local PAGASA for updates.

We have a new Philippine King yโ€™all!

Meet the Ophiophagus Salvatana (please see letter D in the pic below), a king cobra found nowhere else in the world but the Philippines, in the northern part of Luzon.

Imagine living in a world thatโ€™s deteriorating and still new life forms manage to exist, birthing new species. Our country has always been a biodiversity hotspot, how blessed are we?! And the only way we get them protected is to share the news to as many Filipinos as possible. Little is known about our new snake but Iโ€™m personally excited to know more about it from the scientists who discovered them. Well sure keep an ff!

And on the light of protecting our new snake, WE URGE OUR GOVERNMENT TO FUND THE RESEARCH FOR ANTI VENOM.
