Unpopular opinion: procrastination can be a good thing.

Think about it; there has to be a reward for us to rely on it.

Despite popular opinion—and putting our own judgement aside—the part of us that procrastinates is only trying to care for us:

• it keeps us safe: maybe we’re not emotionally ready yet to face the task/decision (and that’s okay)

• it’s generous: gives us extra time to gather the energy we need to make that move (after all, action requires energy)

• it’s trustworthy: we can rely on how it immediately meets our needs right now (maybe what we REALLY need is a puse & rest more than anything)

If you find yourself procrastinating often, take a moment to reflect on the benefits from this habit. Yes, procrastination isn't something that just happens; it's a habit we choose, a decision to postpone an important task for later.

Notice how there’s a part of you that wants to make sure you are OK right now—regardless of anything that may happen later.

Is it the most effective way to regulate your nervous system?

No, but it keeps the perceived threat(s) away.

Note: I am NOT saying procrastination is an overall good thing.

We already know it isn’t:

• it messes with our sense of worth
• keeps us from moving forward
• hurts our self-trust
• puts our integrity at risk (it’s hard to trust someone who doesn’t do what they say they will do)

What I’m saying is this:

Next time you procrastinate, look at yourself with curiosity, not judgement. You may not have realized this, but when you judge yourself you are actively keeping yourself from doing better (and feeling better).

Growth question:
What it is that I need right now in order to feel comfortable and capable enough of carrying me through this difficult task, conversation, or decision I’m delayin?

If that answer is not easily coming through, come learn how to access your subconscious at UNSTOPPABLE YOU this Friday & Saturday (August 25 & 26th). This transformative, online experience will give you a simple guide to break through any mental block that may be getting in the way of you taking action. Imagine not having to guilt-trip yourself for procrastinating or, better yet, knowing how to effectively quit that habit!

Mindfulness exercise is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. It is a way of training your mind to focus on the here and now, and to let go of thoughts and feelings about the past or future. Mindfulness exercises can be done anywhere, at any time, and they can be as simple or complex as you like.
Mindful breathing: Mindful breathing is a simple but powerful mindfulness exercise that can help to reduce stress and anxiety. When you practice mindful breathing, you focus your attention on your breath, paying attention to the sensations of the air as it enters and leaves your body. This can help to calm your mind and body and bring you into the present moment.
Gratitude practice: Gratitude practice is another simple but effective mindfulness exercise. When you practice gratitude, you take some time each day to think about the things you are grateful for. This can help to shift your focus from the negative to the positive, and to increase your overall happiness.
Positive affirmations: Positive affirmations are statements that you repeat to yourself on a regular basis. When you practice positive affirmations, you are essentially programming your mind with positive thoughts. This can help to improve your self-esteem, boost your mood, and increase your motivation.
Meditation: Meditation is a more formal mindfulness practice that involves sitting quietly and focusing your attention on a single object, such as your breath or a mantra. Meditation can be challenging at first, but it is a very rewarding practice that can have profound benefits for your mental and physical health.
Body scan: The body scan is a type of meditation that involves bringing your awareness to different parts of your body. When you do a body scan, you start at your toes and slowly move your awareness up your body, paying attention to the sensations you feel in each part of your body. This can help you to become more aware of your body and to relax any areas of tension.
Observing your thoughts and emotions: Observing your thoughts and emotions is a mindfulness practice that involves simply noticing your thoughts and emotions without judgment. When you do this, you are not trying to change your thoughts or emotions, you are simply observing them. This can help you to gain some distance from your thoughts and emotions, and to see them more clearly.
Mindful eating: Mindful eating is a practice of paying attention to your food as you eat it. When you eat mindfully, you focus on the taste, texture, and smell of your food. You also pay attention to your body's signals of hunger and fullness. This can help you to enjoy Nutty Nibbles more and to choose to eat healthier.
