🏡 A HOUSE WITH A STORY
Cantilounge is not a newly built hotel, but a home that once belonged to a local Cantilangnon family. The owners have since passed on and their children have made homes of their own, but the house remains a little piece of Cantilan’s story. We kept touches of what made it theirs: warm yellow tones, their favorite color, and blue-and-white ceramic and porcelain pieces reminiscent of the wares they once sold.
The guesthouse is a typical Cantilangnon home from the 1990s to early 2000s. It is warm, simple, familiar, and designed around family life. We kept its hardwood walls and floors, spacious veranda, familiar furniture and tableware, warm wood tones, natural basketry, wrought-iron details, and local character. Rather than making it feel like a hotel, we wanted it to feel like a home that has simply opened its doors again.
We’ve added a few comforts for today such as air-conditioned rooms, hot showers, and cozy spaces for reading and resting, while keeping the old soul of the house alive.
And there is a special reason this home continues to have life.
🌱 A HOME THAT BECOMES A CLASSROOM
Cantilounge is operated by the highscool adolescents of Cantilan Montessori School as part of their preparation for real adult life with the guidance of teachers.
Through the café and guesthouse, adolescents experience real work, entrepreneurship, leadership, service, cooperation, financial responsibility, and community life, not simply as lessons, but through meaningful daily work.
Twice a year, the guesthouse itself becomes their residential home. The adolescents live and sleep together for weeks up to 1 month like in a dormitory or boarding house, care for the household, share responsibilities like cooking, cleaning and do laundry, manage their work, and experience the realities of living and working as a community.
So when you stay at Cantilounge, you are staying in a house with a story, and supporting an educational experience where young people learn by doing meaningful work in the real world.
