The Real Story Behind Haku-Haku: A Concept Can't Be Copied ๐
Haku started with a deep meaning and you are part of it. It isnโt just about riding a trend in Saranay; itโs about the love, loyalty, and respect we have for Southeast Asian culture, tradition, and history. We want Filipinos to understand how deeply connected we are to our neighboring nations. We share so much in our languages, arts, features, and of course, our foodโwhich is exactly what inspired us to bring the best snacks and drinks together into one menu.
With every visit, we want you to feel that lost connection through what you see, hear, and taste that's why we play asian music only. We want to offer a complete experience. Sometimes, we Filipinos can feel alienated from our pre-colonial identity, but customers who stop and think often feel a deeply familiar connection here. That is what Haku is all about. It is not just a business; it is an art, an advocacy, and a solution.
Our goal has always been to bring this rich experience right to your neighborhood so you don't need to travel far. "No need a passport" is our brand, our recipes are dedicated to preserving tradition and protecting the health of our customers. We stand for sustainability, both for our bodies and the environment. Thatโs why you will see our store filled with DIY art, recycled furniture, and organic plants. Our authenticity comes from our principles and the way we choose to live.
Some people might think the name Haku-Haku sounds funny, but do you know what it means? It translates to "Dragon-Dragon." The dragon is a common mythical creature across Asia, much like our own "Bakunawa" here in the Philippines. To us, it symbolizes strength, power, and perseverance.
Our story has deep roots. Haku Asian Cafe (The Black Brand) actually originated from Haku Haku Yogurt and Snacks (The Red Brand), which started back in July 2024 in a small village in Barangay 171 and on GrabFood. We eventually had to take a hiatus due to operational limitations and production. But in February 2026, Haku-Haku Asian Cafe was reborn through new partnerships. Our mission remained simple: bring top-quality coffee and tea to the neighborhood, serve traditional and natural ingredients, protect our customers' health, and champion real art over commercial, artificial materials.
Those first few months were about sheer survival. Acceptance from the community was hard at first as majority use to consume commericialized ideas, and we didn't have many customers. For weeks, our supporters were just family, friends, colleagues, and curious, health-conscious people. But from there, word slowly spread. Bike, motorcycle, and car groups started coming in, bringing more friends and families. We built loyal customers and, more importantly, we built trust. You became friends with us and with our "soldiers"โthe baristas who happily serve your daily favorites.
Recently, there has been some noise online. We have seen the heated discussions, and we have seen others try to replicate our concept. To the customers who have passionately defended us in the comments: thank you. Your loyalty means the world to us, though we never want you to stress over online fights on our behalf.
Haku-Haku is built on truth and realness. Whatever commercial limitations we face, and whoever tries to imitate us or profit off our ideas, we stand firm. An artwork can be inspired, but outright imitation is a shame to the artist. You can copy a look, but you can never copy a soul.
We don't need IPOs or gimmicks. We live by being real. Genuine intentions are the most valuable things we can offer, and we will keep focusing on what matters most: serving you.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to you, our real community, and promise to always take care of your experience with us.
Love,
**HAKU - HAKU**
