I finally got a new iPhone 17 Pro Max three months ago,
Before that, I had been holding on to my old Poco X4 Pro for seven years.
The screen was broken, but I kept telling myself, โI can still use it.โ
Besides, I didnโt have the budget for a new phone yet. And if I was going to buy one, I wanted something powerfulโsomething I could actually use to its full potential.
Then one day, while I was using my phone, I noticed something strange.
The black area on the broken screen had started getting bigger.
At first, it was just a small portion.
Then it spread.
And spread.
Until one day, the entire screen went black.
Sure, I could have replaced the screen. But the truth was, the screen wasnโt the only thing holding me back.
The phone itself had become slow. It lagged. It struggled with the things I needed to do.
I wasnโt just looking at a broken screen. I was being limited by something that could no longer keep up with me.
And then I got my new phone.
Man! The difference was incredible.
It was fast. Powerful. Capable.
Suddenly, things that used to frustrate me became easy.
It felt like I could finally do more with what I have and I realize how held back I was by what I was using.
And somewhere in that experience, I realized something about my own life.
I am that phone.
There have been seasons when my mind was slowly being covered by darkness; dark thoughts and hopelessness.
The feeling that I was useless. The feeling that the broken parts of me were keeping me from moving forward.
The hardest part is that I knew I wanted to get out.
And what's sad is that I knew what I needed to do.
But knowing how to get out and actually being able to do it are two different things.
I was stuck.
My mind felt completely blacked out.
Then one night, someone invited me to a gathering where I was asked to speak.
Honestly, I didnโt want to go. But I had nothing else to do that night, and I didnโt even have to prepare much. I could simply read the assigned chapter from a book.
So I went.
And while I was reading that chapter, I began to cry.
It felt like the words werenโt meant for everyone else in the room.
They were meant for me.
The darkness I had been carrying began to make room for something else. I donโt even remember everything I read that night but I remember how it felt.
I remembered what it felt like to have something good inside me again; Something that is new and alive. Something worth holding on to.
And even today, Iโm still holding on to that feeling.
Because when the darkness comes back (and sometimes it does) I remind myself:
This thought will not last forever.
The screen may go dark again but that doesnโt mean the story is over.
I don't have to remain in darkness and I know something new is coming.
And because I have experienced that newness, I made myself a promise:
If there is someone out there who needs what I once needed, I want to be there for them.
Whether they know they need it or not.
Whether theyโre ready for it or not.
Because an experience that brings you back to life was never meant to be kept for yourself alone.
Maybe the newness I found was meant to become someone elseโs hope.
So if youโre carrying something heavy right now, you donโt have to explain everything. Just send me a semicolon (;). Comment it below or message me privately, and Iโll reach out.
You donโt have to have the right words.
You donโt even have to know what you need.
Maybe, for now, you just need a friend.
May you find the newness you need.
And may you find the courage to start again.
