Trivia: Balingasay River and Sungayan Grill
Balingasay River: A Natural Treasure of Bolinao
Located in Barangay Balingasay, Bolinao, Pangasinan, the Balingasay River is one of the province’s most celebrated ecotourism destinations. Stretching approximately seven kilometers, the river is nourished by natural springs and waterways connected to the famous Bolinao Falls. It became widely recognized as one of the cleanest rivers in Luzon and earned the prestigious Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Award as one of Region I’s Cleanest and Greenest Inland Bodies of Water. Rich in mangrove forests, nipa palms, migratory birds, and aquatic life, Balingasay River continues to be a symbol of environmental conservation and sustainable tourism in Pangasinan.
Sungayan Grill: The First Floating Restaurant on Balingasay River
Established in March 2013, Sungayan Grill became the first floating restaurant to operate along the scenic Balingasay River. Known for its floating nipa huts and river cruise dining experience, the restaurant allows visitors to enjoy fresh seafood and local Pangasinan cuisine while gliding through peaceful mangrove-lined waterways.
Sungayan Grill is DOT-accredited, a member of the Pangasinan Convention and Visitors Bureau (PCVB), and proudly featured in SeePangasinan, the official tourism website and tourism campaign of the Province of Pangasinan. The establishment is also DENR-EMB compliant, supporting responsible environmental practices and sustainable tourism operations along the river.
Today, Sungayan Grill remains one of Bolinao’s top attractions, blending nature, culture, and culinary tourism into a uniquely Pangasinan experience.
Did you know? A cruise at Sungayan Grill offers visitors not only a relaxing dining experience but also an up-close view of the thriving mangrove ecosystem that makes Balingasay River one of Pangasinan’s environmental treasures.
