Makabayan Café is a social enterprise centered on its advocacy to patronize local goods and services as a way to empower Filipino Families and Communities that would later on be the backbone of National Development and Sustainable Growth.
Makabayan Café is one of the many social enterprises that its owners - a League of Social Entrepreneurs in Baguio City, have envisioned and is now establishing. It is established with the premise that all forms of development (holistic development) starts with a development that starts in the family and the community-level. Thus, in the lense of economic development, it must be based from local labor and industries. In short, it should be nationalist (Makabayan!) where we rely on our own production and services before considering its foreign counterparts.
Makabayan Café, as the pilot project for this venture, will begin by promoting products and services that are made through preferential option to local markets and direct purchases from local farms. Also, its menu will be named with a nationalistic significance in order to propagate and popularize a culture of self-reliance and subsidiarity in a nationalist perspective.
Why a Café?
We believe that it is the most suitable start-up business in relation to our vision. The Café has a lot of local markets and farms to support and promote while at the same time, it can be a venue for purposeful and meaningful collective discussions such as a center for cause-based activities, small group seminars, sports and health related activities, and other social activities that will bring into fruition what we’ve envisioned to be a social enterprise that will take the lead on community-based national development and genuine sustainable growth with people empowerment as its backbone.
We are not just a business, we are a social business for nationalism and people-centered economic development! Tara na sa Makabayan Café! Dito ang “Kapihan ng mga Makabayan!”
