Please be advised that FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES AT ALL LEVELS, in both public and private educational institutions within the Municipality of Atok, Benguet, are SUSPENDED on August 5, 2026 (Wednesday).

This suspension is implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all students from the hazards associated with the prevailing weather conditions, particularly the rainfall being experienced in the municipality and the forecasted heavy rainfall due to the Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) affecting the Province of Benguet, including Atok.

This is based on the latest Weather Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings issued by DOST-PAGASA and the Northern Luzon PAGASA Regional Services Division (PRSD).

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A five-square-meter coffee stall inside the Cagayan de Oro City Jail Male Dormitory is preparing inmates for reintegration through professional skills training.

Named Beans Behind Bars, the shop is operated by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s (BJMP) Welfare and Development Unit. The initiative serves about 20 beverages, including milk teas and signature blends like "The Warden’s Brew."

Mark, an inmate barista who learned the craft from a fellow detainee certified by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), now helps run daily operations. Proceeds support jail rehabilitation activities.

"This is a skill I can use when I get out," Mark said, noting his plans to manage his aunt’s coffee shop upon release.

The coffee shop is part of a broader partnership between the BJMP and TESDA, which established an on-site skills training center. The facility also offers vocational programs in tailoring, electrical installation, metal fabrication, baking, and salon services.

"Through strong collaboration... we have brought skills training inside our jail facilities, giving our PDL the knowledge, confidence, and opportunity to build a better future," said BJMP Regional Director Felixberto Jagorin Jr.
