Armando's Pizza began in May 1973 as King Pizza, a partnership between Harry Walpole (an American ex-serviceman) and Ricardo H. A couple of months later, the latter sold his share to his younger brother, Armando L. It was in 1979 that Armando became the sole owner of the business and renamed it Armando's Pizza after he bought out Harry, who, however, continued operating the King Pizza in Olongapo City. In 1980, with the work supervised by his eldest child Olivia 'Bette' N. Mejia, Armando undertook the adaptive re-use of his father's old camalig (a building used mainly for storing rice) by converting it into a restaurant, The Camalig, which first opened its doors to the public on 13 December 1980. In June 1998, Armando's older son Marc started operating the restaurant and renamed it Historic Camalig Restaurant: The Home of Armando's Pizza. He also added the slogan "Ang Pambansang Pizza" to emphasize that it is a homegrown pizza. With its 21 flavors, Armando's Pizza is available exclusively at Historic Camalig Restaurant, Camalig Square, 292 Dalan Sto Rosario, Heritage District, Angeles City, Philippines.
