We have a jungle lodge on the Mazan River, about a 5 hour boat ride from Iqutios, which is in the virgin jungle. We can gladly arrange a jungle trip to our lodge, where you can explore the jungle on guided hikes, or by dugout canoe, go fishingon the Mazan River. LOCATION:
Whether you come by boat or plane, just head for the Plaza de Armas in Iquitos. From the Plaza, go up Napo 3 blocks, the crossroads is Nanay the hostel is ½ block to the right on Nanay, you will see the Cristal Corazon sign. 130 Nanay is between Napo and Nauta, so if you are in a mototaxis or taxi they will have to circle the block as it is one way. The moto taxi drivers may try to take you to another hostel, but just insist you wish to come here; many moto taxi drivers recieve a commission if they bring you to certain other hostels in Iquitos. There is a commission business in most South American countries and recommendations may not always be based on the merits of the business, but strictly the financial pay off. ACCOMODATIONS:
This hostel, though close to the center of activity, the plaza, prides itself as a quiet place to rest and recoup. If a loud party scene is what you are looking for, this is not the place for you. If you enjoy mellow, this is a great place to meet a few friends, lie in the hammock, have a drink, cook yourself up a scrumptious dinner(we even have a grill), or go out to eat at one of the nearby restaurants. The walls throughout this cozy hostel are cheerful and tastefully colored. The green double rooms are referred to as La Selva(the jungle) and the blue as El Cielo(the sky). The beds have orthopedic mattresses and cotton sheets and as frequent travelers know, this is often where economy rooms lack, but here you and your back can sleep like a baby. There are stylishly tiled bathrooms for your convenience with showers throughout and also a tub. The delicious fresh foods available at the two main markets nearby, may inspire in you a desire to cook. The full kitchen with stainless steel cookware is available for your use. Upon your arrival, you are given an area to store your dry goods and an area in the refrigerator. Fresh cold filtered water is available with the push of a button on the outside of the refrigerator. The patio area with a Grandmother Mango tree is a special place to visit with friends or relax in the hammocks. A few medicinal plants are planted here also. This tree is a haven for many birds and butterflies to visit. During the mango harvest we request you be cautious and possibly stay inside as she gives her fruit abundantly, you are welcome to try them. Mango chicken anyone?
