¡Noticias desde la Asociación Yurac Yacu! El sabado 11 de Octubre realizamos una reunión de confraternidad en el Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center, vecino de The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge. Una reunión y almuerzo con los vecinos de Cachipampa alta miembros de la asociación Yurac Yacu para motivarlos y discutir con ellos y las autoridades locales asuntos de interés común. Especialmente, para hablar sobre el plan de trabajo de este año para la mejora de la vía Marian – Cachipampa. A la fecha la asociación Yurac Yacu cuenta con muchos miembros, entre 60 y 70 personas, y estas reuniones ayudan para que otros vecinos se animen a participar. ¡Agradecemos a todos los asistentes! ¡Gracias a todos lo pasamos muy bien!

Greetings from our community venture! Every year before the high season the Yurac Yacu Association prepare the Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center so it can be ready for the opening of the Yurac Yacu Cafe. These days the association is composed of 55 community members approximately, the ones who receive benefits for their participation. Here we share some images of the preparation tasks – the communal “faena” carried out last Sunday 20th April. Some of the tasks carried out include clean the grounds, grass cutting, some painting, installing new grass rooftops for the “chozas”, among others. Great news: The Yurac Yacu Cafe will open again this monht of June! We will be happy to welcome you!

¡Saludos desde nuestro emprendimiento comunitario! Todos los años antes de la temporada alta la Asociación Yurac Yacu prepara el Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center para que esté listo para la apertura del Yurac Yacu Cafe. En estos días la asociación está conformada por 55 comuneros aproximadamente, los que reciben beneficios por su participación. Aquí compartimos algunas imágenes de las tareas de preparación - faena comunal realizadas el pasado domingo 20 de abril. Algunas de las tareas realizadas incluyen limpieza del terreno, corte de pasto, algo de pintura, instalación de nuevos techos de pasto para las «chozas», entre otras. Una gran noticia: el Café Yurac Yacu abrirá nuevamente este mes de junio. ¡Estaremos encantados de darles la bienvenida!

Sustainability at The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge! Our friends of Impactful Travel visited us with a lovely group very interested to learn about our sustainable operation, including eco-building techniques, recycling and composting, among others. They took part in a tour around the property where we shared about our 20 years of experience at the lodge and with the projects with Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center. It feels so nice to meet visitors so enthusiastic to learn from us! Thank you, Guido and Agnes! We hope to see you around again soon.

¡Grupo de estudio en The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge! El fin de semana recibimos una misión de campo organizada por la Carrera de Ingeniería Ambiental de la Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC). Nos visitaron 12 alumnos junto a sus 2 profesores, que llevaban algunos días recorriendo Huaraz, Caraz y el Parque Nacional Huascarán. El grupo disfrutó de un almuerzo en el Yurac Yacu Café, nuestro proyecto comunitario impulsado por Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center y el Lazy Dog Inn, y recorrieron las instalaciones del hotel aprendiendo un poco acerca de su construcción y operación eco-amigable. ¡Que gusto recibir a estudiantes tan interesados en nuestro trabajo!

Study group at the The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge! Last weekend we received a field mission organized by the Environmental Engineering Career of the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC). We were visited by 12 students along with their 2 teachers, who had spent a few days exploring Huaraz, Caraz and Huascaran National Park. The group enjoyed lunch at the Yurac Yacu Café, our community project promoted by Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center and the Lazy Dog Inn, and then toured the facilities of the hotel learning a little about its construction and eco-friendly operation. What a pleasure to receive students so interested in our work!

We continue with the activities at the Community Center and Yurac Yacu Café! El “Club de las Mujeres de Yurac Yacu” offer their beautiful knitted products every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 4pm. Today we introduce senora Donata, one of the elder ladies of the association. Take your time to come and visit us for a delicious meal at Yurac Yacu Café and to learn about this community project. The knitted products are 100% sheep wool, mostly dyed with natural colors extracted from local plants. You will be surprised by the creative designs and the variety of the products. This is an excellent opportunity to buy fine hand knitted products at amazing prices! The Yurac Yacu Cafe is located a few meters from The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge, in Cachipampa alta, on the road to Llaca valley and Churup lake. Today at The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge, our guests who leave their mark! Emma Cook Clarke, stayed at the lodge for the week before participating in the Ultra Trail Cordillera Blanca (UTCB) 2024, on July 7th. Emma has received an important award! She came in second, less than 1 minute behind the first place winner in the 25 Km Skyrun with an extraordinary time of 2 hours 38 minutes. Congratulations Emma! Emma Cook Clarke is a young athlete from Canada who started running in competitions in 2012, in the University of Calgary. Back then she took part in competitions on a yearly basis. In the last 3 years she has been competing more, mostly in the Skyrunning world series, and Espartane obstacle course racing. What did she love most about The Lazy Dog Inn? “It is a quiet and very comfortable place, in a remote location and close to big mountains. I loved the people that work here, the food, and especially that I could go on many fabulous hikes and runs starting from the Lazy Dog”. Emma would definitively recommend The Lazy Dog Inn to others. ¡Hoy en The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge, nuestros huéspedes que dejan huella! Emma Cook Clarke, se alojó en nuestro lodge durante la semana antes de participar en el Ultra Trail Cordillera Blanca (UTCB) 2024, el 7 de julio. ¡Emma ha recibido un importante premio! Llegó segunda, a menos de 1 minuto de la ganadora del primer lugar en el Skyrun de 25 Km con un tiempo extraordinario de 2 horas 38 minutos. ¡Felicitaciones Emma! Emma Cook Clarke es una joven atleta de Canadá que empezó a correr en competencias en 2012, en la Universidad de Calgary. Por aquel entonces participaba en competencias de forma anual. En los últimos 3 años ha estado compitiendo más, sobre todo en las series mundiales de Skyrunning y en las carreras de obstáculos de Espartane. ¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de The Lazy Dog Inn? "Es un lugar tranquilo y muy cómodo, en un lugar remoto y cerca de grandes montañas. Me encantó la gente que trabaja aquí, la comida y sobre todo, que podía hacer muchas caminatas y carreras fabulosas partiendo del Lazy Dog". Emma recomendaría definitivamente The Lazy Dog Inn a otros. ¡Gracias Emma!

Lazy Dog Inn guests, who contribute to our cause! Florence E. Babb is a professor of anthropology from the University of North Carolina in the USA. She has been intrigued by the Andean Culture for decades and after her first visit to the The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge in 2015 she came to know our NGO Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center and the local women´s knitting group. Through these contacts she learned more about the local reality and the role of women in our communities. Florence has returned to share her work with us. The result of her research is the book "Women's Place in the Andes", published in English in 2018 by the University of California Press and in Spanish in 2019 by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP). Her recent visit allowed her to meet with the group of artisans from the Yurac Yacu Women's Association who were part of her research in 2015 and to listen to their stories and their current situation. It was very interesting and motivating for Florence to reconnect with them and continue her studies on Andean women and the challenges they face in modern society.

¡Huéspedes de Lazy Dog Inn, que contribuyen a nuestra causa! Florence E. Babb es profesora de antropología de la Universidad de Carolina del Norte en Estados Unidos. Lleva décadas intrigada por la Cultura Andina y tras su primera visita a The Lazy Dog Inn a Mountain Lodge en 2015 conoció nuestra ONG Andean Alliance - Yurac Yacu Community Development Center, y el grupo local de mujeres tejedoras. A través de estos contactos aprendió más sobre la realidad local y el rol de la mujer en nuestras comunidades. Florence ha vuelto para compartir su trabajo con nosotros. El resultado de su investigación es el libro "Women's Place in the Andes", publicado en inglés en 2018 por University of California Press y en español en 2019 por el Instituto de Estudios Peruanos (IEP). Su reciente visita le permitió reunirse con el grupo de artesanas de la Asociación de Mujeres Yurac Yacu que fueron parte de su investigación en 2015 y escuchar sus historias y su situación actual. Fue muy interesante y motivador para Florence reencontrarse con ellas y continuar sus estudios sobre las mujeres andinas y los desafíos que enfrentan en la sociedad moderna.
