There are several CAR RENTAL companies that have been called out publicly lately and do not operate above board. They hope to hide or just openly refuse to provide the necessary information and proof that they are operating legally and compliant in Panama. Most are entirely expat operated while the main Panamanian Operated company, in full compliance with local laws is castigated for exposing them. I don’t understand how or why anyone can ridicule Johanny Taxi Coronado, Coronado cars or Coronado Services for calling out foreigners dodging the local regulations in her own country. If you or someone you know rents a vehicle from a private individual and are not expressly named on the insurance, then you are not covered for any liability. If you loan your car and this is the case then you are accountable for any and all liability. Penalty’s include seizure of assets, tax evasion fines and penalties, detention from leaving the country, and forfeiture of your residency status. Considering the costs for everyone involved it is the official position of Panama Car Rentals that none of this is worth the cost of saving a few dollars and we stand with our Competitor in helping the public and our expat clients aware of the Panamanian industry standards. You must have FLEET COVERAGE and ALL RISK COMMERCIAL insurance clearly posted on your policy - do not rent until you see these documents and verify them in your car. There is nothing for them to hide and claim it’s “malevolent competitors”.
