Firstly thank you for all your love on our last post. the public outcry and overwhelming support we’ve received in kind words and patronage this last week has been humbling to say the least!

The time has come and this weekend it’s the end of an era, and like we said, we are going out with a bang!

Astros final night is coming in hot! So slap your moon boots on and come dancin as we bid farewell in style and boogey the night away with some of our favourite local bands and djs one last time, from 9pm May the third until early morning May the fourth (because may the fourth be with you duh)

Entry is free and so are happy tears (it’s your party and you’ll cry if you want to) 💕

Astroboy is Closing – Thank You, Whangārei

Three years ago, we opened Astroboy because we felt Whangārei was ready for something a little different. We were tired of the same old, and we wanted to be part of a movement—alongside other incredible bars and restaurants opening at the time—that aimed to breathe some fresh life into our town.

We’ve had an amazing run. But with our lease term coming to an end, and the current economic climate making it harder than ever to operate a small independent venue, we’ve made the tough decision to close our doors.

Our last day of service will be Saturday, May 3rd, and we’d love for you to come through and help us celebrate everything Astroboy has meant to us and (hopefully) to you.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together—thanks to our hardworking team and the amazing support from all of you. Together, we’ve picked up multiple awards: People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice at Fritter Festival, bartending wins, nominations for several hospitality awards, People’s Choice for Puanga on a Plate, and Best Burger in the local Hot Grill Summer competition. That level of support has meant the world to us.

To our incredible staff—past and present—thank you for your talent, your heart, and your hustle. And to every customer who’s backed us along the way: thank you. You made it all worth it.

You know we’re going to go out the way we came in—bold, fun, and full of flavour. One last cheeseburger spring roll. One last cocktail. One last party (stay tuned for more info).
