9 years ago Jenny and I left our lives in Sydney and came back to NZ to turn our drunken “plan” into reality. With the support and free labour from our families and friends, on 15 July 2017, Russmans was officially opened.

Since then we have hosted birthdays, personal milestones, weddings and anniversaries. We have survived the covid era, endured an unstable economy and made many new friends along the way.

Thank you to everyone who has come through our doors, we have truly appreciated every one of you.

Thank you to our families and friends for your love and support - we couldn’t have done it without you all ❤️

Tonight we close the doors on this chapter of our lives. We do so with full hearts, gratitude and pride.

As most already know, it’s time for Jen to start her well earned retirement and so after 9 years of serving this community, our very last day will be Easter Sunday 5 April 2026.

In that time we have survived the covid shutdowns, served lunches to our local kura, fed the masses and watered the weary.

We are proud of what we have achieved with no prior hospo experience, just an idea concocted late one evening over 8 bottles of red wine!!

Anyway, before the last beer, the last wine and the last meal are served, come down and keep Jen on her toes as she starts her final countdown to retirement.

Jenny has been making magic in the Russmans kitchen for almost 9 years now so this year for her birthday, at the end of March we are letting her retire.

This now opens up an opportunity for someone looking for a space. Continue on as a cafe, use it as a retail space, storage, office or whatever else you might be needing space for.

The lease includes both titles so a huge block of land, as well as the buildings and carpark. So many possible uses!

Shorter initial term gives you a chance to have a go without a long term lease hanging over your head but with the right to stay on if you choose.

Brief terms:

1. Current term expires July 2027

2. Rent fixed until July 2027

3. Five year right of renewal to July 2032

4. Market rent review upon renewal with rent fixed for the term - no future rent increases!

5. Liquor Licence in place, we can help you work with council to get your own in place if you need

6. Resource consent in place for retail/commercial operation from 10am until 9pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am to 11pm Friday and Saturday

7. Chattels available for extra by negotiation
