In 1940’s a barber shop was opened was opened called “Janis Hairdressing” by Anthonio Janis (who moved from Hartford, Connecticut, USA) he first lived in Sydney before moving to Wellington. The shop had 3 barbers chairs and a partitioned section for ladies (this was very unusual for the times) His son George took over the business when Antonio retired. After 13 years, our iconic Ombra sign is getting some major refurbishment. We had a great surprise during the process with discovering the original Liks St******se sign buried underneath it all.

To the worried onlookers who saw it come down, and those who have messaged since asking where it went - thanks for checking in. Give us 2-3 weeks, and it’ll be back hanging on the Cuba/Vivian corner for another decade or so to come.
