so our poster says it all.

We’ve switched off comments on our last post re music licensing but here’s a summary:

1. We were contacted by One Music NZ to pay a licensing fee to play background music at our coffee shop.

2. We chose not to have background music as we didn’t want to add more operating costs on top of all other costs and so we posted to let our customers know there will be no background music.

3. Majority of customers felt it’s sad there’s such a law that businesses must pay to have background music and suggested different options like turning on the radio etc. One or two expressed that artists should be paid for their creations. This is where comments got weird as it was not the point of the post.

4. We absolutely agree that artists must be paid for their work. If the law says businesses must pay a fee if they play background music then we will follow the law.

5. We are a specialty coffee shop and that’s our focus. If having background music adds more cost, we’ve chosen NOT to add this cost as it does not enhance the coffee taste or experience at our place.

Great news!
When you come to FEOH you will be able to treat your ears to the sound of coffee being ground and extracted, and listen to me and my riveting banter 😂
One Music called today.
One Music has stated that playing music in the cafe when I am open is breaking the law unless I buy a license which costs more than $750 per annum.
So on top of council comforming, MPI licensing, and other operational fees applied to my business there will be no music played at FEOH during opening hours

Everything 100% made here from scratch.
From the roasted macadamia in the salted caramel slice to the canale. From the cream cheese in the burnt basque cheese cake, to the pate and pickles in the banh mi. We even roast all our own coffee… oh that’s not news

As much as we can, we use fresh seasonal produce grown in our garden. What we don’t have, we source locally like our eggs and organic milk from farms down the road. No sprays, no preservatives and none of the ultra processed nonsense. Lemons are abundant at the moment so we have lemon tea cake filled with lemon curd then topped with lemon meringue 🍋🍋🍋

Mussels are big, fat, juicy this week, so fritters are on. Served up with my homemade wasabi tartar and a wee slice a cucumber.

A customer came in today, he’s here for the long weekend and was looking for good coffee and said Chat GPT told him to come to Feoh. We didn’t believe him so we asked the bot ourselves and this the result. We like Chat GPT now 🤣🤣🤣

She has finally fruited 😍. This our rare pink Vietnamese pomelo. I now have seedlings to sell. I’m no gardener and have only learnt through trial and error and what I’ve learnt is that Waipu has great growing conditions for citrus. Pomelo is subtropical but they love it here. I’ll leave seedlings at coffee shop.
