Cake & Kitchen was an idea born out of the strong family connection between brother and sister duo Anna and Richard Schouten. Having owned and operated her own specialty cake business, Go Cake Yourself, in Upper Hutt for six years, with the support of husband Grant, Anna was acutely aware of the local's cry for a cool contemporary cafe to hang out in. Richard had spent three years studying Human N

utrition and Politics at University at Massey in Auckland and was itching to get back home. After many discussions around the kitchen table with parents Hank and Jan, the plans began to form and Richard returned to Upper Hutt, with fiance Talani to begin the project. Months of blood, sweat and tears ensued and on the 1st of July 2016 we celebrated our official opening with friends, family and special guests including His Worship the Mayor Wayne Guppy.
