A mighty tree has fallen - We are deeply saddened to have to announce that our dearest, big hearted, generous soul Alberico, who laughed, sang, served and cooked beautiful food for the community for 40 years passed away this Monday afternoon from a heart attack.
Thank you to all the fire fighters and paramedics that did their best to save him and to Derek, Charles and Carmel at South Funeral Services helping us deal with his death.

If anyone would like to come and pay their respects Rachel and Leandro will of course be at the restaurant through-out the week.

Something REALLY SPECIAL to Know

We often use Rosemary for Remembrance but here is something which I became aware of only last year

So if You would like to pick up on This Tradition but don’t have Rosemary in Your Garden [or that of a Friend] you’re Welcome [just for tomorrow Please] to Cut [with Care] a Sprig [or Two] from one of the Rosemary Bushes in the Pots of the Restaurant Garden on the Corner of Logan & Commerce Streets.

LOST ANZAC KIWI TRADITION

The associations of rosemary with ANZAC day have an added dimension, in the fact that rosemary grows wild across the Gallipoli peninsula.

It is uncertain when the practice of wearing rosemary on ANZAC Day first began, but it has become a regular feature of remembrance early after 1916.

But for a late arrival of poppies for Remembrance Day in early 1922, it would have been the symbol for ANZAC.

Some RSAs in NZ still place Rosemary on the service graves yet now the poppy has become the main symbol.
