Greeves Motorcycles was founded by Bert Greeves in 1951 as a way to diversify the Invacar invalid carriage business. The first prototype scrambler was built in 1951, and the company officially launched its first production range of road, trials, and scrambles motorcycles in 1954.

โข 1951: Founder Bert Greeves decided to branch out into motorcycle manufacturing. The very first machine, designated the XP1, was built as a scrambler.
โข 1953: Greeves exhibited their first line of motorcycles (including scrambler, three-speed, and four-speed road bikes) at the Earls Court Motor Cycle Show.
โข 1954: Full production began. Early bikes featured iconic, purpose-built two-stroke engineering, leading-link front forks, and distinct cast-aluminium beam frames.

The 1972 Griffon 380 QUB is essentially a high-performance evolution of the standard 380 Griffonโlighter than many rivals but with a very strong 2-stroke engine. Its main drawback wasnโt power, but chassis refinement compared to rapidly advancing Japanese bikes of the era.
The "QUB" Origins: Named after Queen's University Belfast, the engine's top-end porting and expansion chamber were engineered by the famous two-stroke specialist Dr. Gordon Blair.
Limited Run Era: The QUB series arrived at a time when British manufacturers were losing massive market share to lighter, cheaper Japanese competition (like the Honda CR250 Elsinore).
Survival Rates: Because many of these motorcycles were heavily raced, crashed, or stripped for parts, the number of genuine, surviving MK1 variants is estimated by vintage registries to be incredibly low.
