Tongariro Crossing reopens tomorrow ❤️

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing will reopen on Monday the 17th of November, following the recent wildfire in Tongariro National Park. Most tracks in the park will also reopen, except for the Mangatepopo Track, which remains closed along with Oturere Hut.

Due to fire damage at the Mangatepopo car park, access to the road end is via shuttle only. Private vehicles cannot enter Mangatepopo Road at this time.
Some smoke/ash may still be present, so those with respiratory conditions should take extra care.
Tongariro Alpine Crossing bookings open 1pm Sunday on the DOC website.

As you return, please remember this land has endured a significant event and holds deep cultural and spiritual importance to iwi. Let’s walk with respect, aroha, and appreciation as the area begins to heal. 🌿
