It’s not often you get to reopen a restaurant.

Last week we filled the new-look Hooked with friends, family and a few familiar faces for the first time.

We fed them, poured a few drinks, and asked them to taste, test and tell us what they really thought.

A pretty special night, and the perfect way to set sail on our next exciting adventure.

New-look Hooked opens next Friday, 18 September. But first…

Look who’s turned up.

This dad seal has clearly had enough of the family ruckus and headed for calmer waters. Somewhere along the way, he moved into Hooked and throughout the renovation has quite literally become part of the furniture.

Problem is, he doesn’t have a name.

So, name our seal. 🦭

Drop your best (or worst) suggestion in the comments. Puns are strongly encouraged.

We’ll pick a winner next Friday, and whoever names the big fella gets a $100 Hooked voucher.

KITCHEN ROLES AVAILABLE:

We’re building the new kitchen team at Hooked ☀️

With a completely refurbished cafe and brand new kitchen, we’re looking for an experienced Chef de Partie and Baker to join us in Mārahau for the 2026/27 summer season.

You’ll get competitive pay, staff accommodation in Mārahau, complimentary trips into Abel Tasman National Park, a great crew to work alongside and a pretty unbeatable place to spend the summer.

Chef de Partie starts late September through to the end of April, with our Baker starting early October.
