I’m super excited for our Shared Table dinner at Fair Food next week - Thursday May 21 - alongside hospo legend & friend Tony Stewart.

Events like these are what make this tough industry worthwhile, being humbled by the sheer force of community spirit, everyday people from all walks of life giving their time to help a cause that governments choose to ignore.

Knowing so many Kiwi kids go to school or bed without a warm meal on a winter’s day is something that hurts to hear, but knowing there’s people like the folks at Fair Food out here fighting the good fight gives me hope, and I am truly grateful to be allowed this opportunity to assist Fair Food in providing hard up kiwi families & children with delicious & nutritious meals.

We are one of the most food rich nations on earth and often described as a food basket to the world, but for many Kiwi kids that’s just not true, for what food is good if not shared by the nation that’s grows it?

There are only a few spaces left for this dinner - 100% of the ticket sales go to feed those in need. Dinner includes three canapés, a four course meal and non alcoholic beverage pairings.

This weekend we say farewell to our friend and head chef Rohan Kane, he’s been with us since day one starting as a chef de partie and working his way up to head chef. However his story didn’t start there, Rohan came to Chef Lucas’ first ever Collab at Bracken restaurant in Dunedin back in 2017, year after year Rohan checked if there was jobs available however at that time none were. Rohan came to help at the cyclone Gabrielle fundraiser in 2023 held at Mr Morris and Lucas was impressed with his skill, later on when he asked about a job at Aryeh a trial wasn’t even needed he was straight on the team. He has come a long way and gone from strength to strength. We’re gonna miss him, he’s been there for so much, from holding down the kitchen whilst baby Kupe was being born, all the highs and the lows, and everything in between, he’s been there. Always loyal and turns up every day with a positive attitude. We wish you the best at Return restaurant and this exciting new chapter in your life. With love and gratitude, thank you for everything Chef.

Chef Lucas & Team Aryeh.

I’m excited to be part of The Conscious Kitchen’s Shared Table, a special dining series created with Fair Food and Tony Stewart that celebrates creativity, community and rescued kai.

On Thursday 21 May, I’ll be cooking a one-off dinner at Fair Food’s Conscious Kitchen in Avondale, creating a menu using surplus ingredients that would otherwise go to waste. It’s an opportunity to rethink what’s possible in the kitchen and show how incredible food can come from unexpected places.

Each event seats just 20 guests around a shared table, with all funds raised going directly to Fair Food, helping feed people, not landfill.

The series kicks off with Ben Bayly, followed by Tom Hishon, then my dinner in May, with Sid Sahrawat, Henry Onesemo (lunch), and Michael Dearth & Federico Schincariol also taking part across the coming months.

Thanks to Tony Stewart and the Fair Food team for bringing chefs together for such a meaningful kaupapa.

Tickets are available now via the link in bio.

The Devil’s Cut

8 years ago Chef Lucas swore off using chocolate, frustrated by the treatment of those who grew the majority of the beans that fuel our sweet addiction.

However upon opening Aryeh, Lucas & master chocolatier Thomas Netana Wright sparked up a good friendship, Thomas educated Lucas on the great measures of sustainability & care he takes when sourcing his beans, all from small organically grown family plantations in the South Pacific and sent here using the empty space on the ships heading to NZ.

Finally, chocolate makes its way back on the menu, to beat the devil, sometimes you’ve gotta play him at his own game…with a cherry on top.

65% .cacao chocolate mousse ice cream/ nitrous whipped creme caramel/ pickled Otago cherries/ cocoa butter crunch
