🌸☀️ What a lovely way to start a spring day!

This morning we enjoyed a fantastic Business Before 9 breakfast with UCOL, bringing our business community together for breakfast, networking and some valuable insights into the opportunities available right here in Manawatū.

It was great to hear more about how UCOL is working alongside local businesses to develop a skilled regional workforce, and the education, training and upskilling opportunities available to support businesses and their teams.

We also had the opportunity to learn more about UCOL's hospitality facilities and see vocational learning in action.

Building strong connections between education and industry is so important for the future of our region, helping ensure businesses have access to the skills and talent they need to grow.

A big thank you to the team at UCOL for hosting us at Ambitions Restaurant, and to everyone who joined us for such a positive start to the day. 💚

🌿 Wellbeing Wednesday – Is everything really urgent?

When your inbox is full and the to-do list keeps growing, it can start to feel as though everything needs to be done immediately.

But does it?

Today, take five minutes and look at what’s on your plate.

What genuinely needs your attention today?
What can wait?
What can be delegated?
And what probably doesn't need doing at all?

Sometimes reducing stress isn't about working faster — it's about being clearer about what actually matters.

A useful little midweek reset for all of us. 💚

🚛 Have your say on the Manawatū Regional Freight Ring Road

The proposed Manawatū Regional Freight Ring Road is an important piece of future infrastructure for our region — particularly for our business, freight, logistics and distribution sectors.

Following previous community engagement, Palmerston North City Council has narrowed the options and completed further technical assessment and transport modelling. The next stage gives our community another opportunity to see what has progressed, understand the evidence behind the options and provide feedback before a preferred route is confirmed.

For our business community, this matters. The Ring Road is intended to strengthen connections between key industrial areas, Te Utanganui, state highways and the wider region, while improving freight efficiency and reducing heavy vehicle movements through the city.

There are four upcoming community expos:
📍 Ashhurst – Monday 12 October, 2pm–7pm
📍 Bunnythorpe – Wednesday 14 October, 2pm–7pm
📍 Linton – Saturday 17 October, 9am–midday
📍 Longburn – Saturday 17 October, 1pm–4pm

You can attend whichever session suits you, with the route information available at each expo.

Can't make it? Information and the opportunity to provide feedback will be available online from 12–30 October.

👉 Find out more and have your say on the Ring Road pncc.govt.nz/ringroad.

We encourage our business community to take a look, ask questions and have your say. Decisions around our region's future transport network have long-term implications for how efficiently people, goods and businesses can move and grow.

🍎 Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Today we celebrate all the fabulous teachers, educators and support staff across Manawatū who inspire, encourage and challenge our young people every day.

The impact of a great teacher reaches far beyond the classroom. They help develop the skills, confidence, curiosity and resilience that our future workforce, business owners, entrepreneurs and community leaders will carry with them throughout their lives.

For our business community, education and business go hand in hand. The young people sitting in classrooms today are the people who will help shape the future of our workplaces, industries and region.

So today, a huge THANK YOU to our teachers for the work you do, the extra hours people don't always see, and the difference you make. 💚

And if there’s a teacher — past or present — who made a difference in your life, give them a shout-out in the comments! 👇

💚 What could one new connection do for your business?

It might introduce you to your next client, supplier, employee, mentor or collaborator.

Or it might simply give you a different perspective on something you’ve been trying to solve.

That’s why connection is such an important part of what we do at the Chamber.

This week, challenge yourself to make one new business connection — introduce yourself at an event, send that email, arrange the coffee or ask someone in your network to make an introduction.

You never quite know where a conversation might lead. 🤝

🏛️Thank you, Hon Mark Mitchell

It was a pleasure to welcome Hon Mark Mitchell to speak with members of our business community yesterday.

Mark discussed a number of his ministerial portfolios, with a particular focus on his roles as Minister of Police and Minister of Corrections.

We also appreciated his acknowledgement of the important role the business community plays in generating income, creating employment and contributing to New Zealand’s economy.

For the Chamber, opportunities to hear directly from decision-makers and to ask questions about the issues affecting businesses and our wider community are an important part of keeping our members informed, connected and influential.

Thank you, Mark Mitchell MP, for taking the time to visit Manawatū and speak with our members, and thank you to everyone who joined us.

The Manawatū Business Chamber is politically neutral and welcomes opportunities to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Welcome to Manawatū – Road Relays 2026!

This Saturday, 3 October, Halcombe and the surrounding country roads will come alive for The Ultimate Team Run – the 2026 Road Relays.

Teams will be running their way through the countryside, handing over relay batons, cheering each other on from the vans and, no doubt, looking forward to that finish-line celebration! 🙌

With both Open and Championship events, it’s set to be a fantastic day of competition, teamwork and camaraderie.

To all the runners, support crews, officials, volunteers, friends and whānau travelling to our region for the event — welcome to Manawatū-Whanganui! 💚

We hope you have a brilliant race and enjoy your time here. And while you’re in the region, make sure you grab a coffee, enjoy a meal, fill up the van and support some of our fantastic local businesses along the way.

Good luck to every team taking on the Road Relays! 🏅

☕ Today is International Coffee Day… which feels like a day the business community can really get behind!

For many of us, coffee is part of the working day — the first cup before the emails begin, a catch-up with a colleague, a meeting with a client or the perfect excuse to step away from the desk for ten minutes.

And we’re lucky to have some fantastic cafés and coffee spots throughout Manawatū.

So today’s challenge is an easy one:
💚 Grab your coffee from a local business.

Even better, turn it into a catch-up with someone you’ve been meaning to connect with.

👇 And because this could get competitive… who makes your favourite coffee in Manawatū? Tag them below!
