Part-time Café Cook: Three Days per Week
Columbus Coffee Oamaru is looking for a capable and reliable café cook to join our kitchen team.
This is a permanent part-time position working:
Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:30am–3:00pm
Sunday, 11:00am–2:00pm
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, you’ll cover our main cook’s regular days off and take responsibility for keeping the kitchen running smoothly. The shorter Sunday shift provides extra support during one of the café’s busiest periods.
The role includes:
Preparing fresh food for the café
Baking slices, cakes and other sweet items
Keeping food and ingredient stock levels up
Replenishing the cabinet throughout the day
Supporting the kitchen team during busy Sunday service
Maintaining a clean, organised and food-safe kitchen
Managing the day’s preparation and working confidently without constant supervision
You’ll be joining a loyal and dedicated team who genuinely enjoy what they do. The café also has a strong base of regular customers who know and love the food, so consistency and pride in what goes into the cabinet are important.
This role could suit an experienced café cook or baker who loves working with food but isn’t looking for a full working week. It may also suit someone with other commitments who would like three regular shifts each week.
We’d like someone to start as soon as possible, but we won’t expect you to arrive knowing everything. A supported transition and proper training period will be provided so you can learn the kitchen, recipes and daily routines before the busy summer season.
Previous café, commercial kitchen or food-preparation experience would be ideal. Above all, we’re looking for someone dependable, organised and comfortable taking responsibility for the kitchen during their shifts.
