There are many, many, many of these what we call 'troll bridges' in Scotland. Every road has them. The trouble is, you often don't see them until you're on them, which is why there are so few photos.
And of course we couldn't get any photos of trolls since they hear us coming from miles away

Dunblane Cathedral. Incidentally, it's restoration began in the late 1800s, around the time the Pluscarden Abbey was rescued from the effects of total neglect and abandonment.
It's a fascinating story, including allegations of murder and skulduggery but we don't have time to talk about that here.
I visited this afternoon and was impressed by the care that was taken for the restoration. And the dedication of the people involved.
I will be posting pictures of the carvings that were the work of one man, inside the cathedral, with a bit of information about them.
I hope you enjoy learning about them as much as I did

No moving parts so no videos necessary… These were absolutely magnificent up close.
Both the Falkirk wheel and the Kelpies have brought new life into this area which became a bit sad and depressed after mining stopped here.

We went to Stirling yesterday and visited the castle there. This castle has a fascinating history, it changed hands between the Scottish and the English eight times in about a 300 year period. Kings and queens of Scotland and England actually grew up and lived here. Part of it was a vanity project for one of them, lucky for us.
The lady in period costume knew her stuff, she works there full-time, along with others we saw dressed in similar clothing. She has been doing it for about 20 years and still loves coming to work every day. What a fabulous job!

Please excuse the less than perfect photography
The guide was very good, the hour just flew past.

Paul is a health and safety officer for one of the 50 or so whisky companies that are in the Speyside region.
Yesterday he took me on a tour of their newest distillery.
The Cairn is three years old and one of the most technologically advanced in the area.
You can see it is set in the middle of breathtaking countryside - the Cairngorm national park.
We had a beautiful bistro lunch and then went on the tour of the plant.

The six copper stills are a bit like icebergs - the bulk of them is under the floor.
Due to the high level of ethanol that's given off during these processes it's not advised to take a lot of photographs, I was very lucky to be able to to get pictures of these big copper beasties.

The Ethanol that comes out can be between 60 to 80%. The new made spirit is then taken away to be stored and matured in barrels for up to 10 to 12 years, sometimes even longer.

Interesting facts: it can only be called Scotch Whisky after it's been stored three years and one day, the final product is usually around 40%.
Whisky with an 'e' is not scotch whisky, it's Irish! Or American, or anything not Scottish

okay, a bit of a long one… I set out on the walk thinking I would never make it because it looked like a mountain to me but Father Giles had given me directions and thank goodness he did because you will see all the trees, all the roads and if he hadn't told me which path to take then I would possibly have given up before I got to the top got lost, or still even be out there, looking.

As I walked (this is the reason there are so many photos of the paths and the trees) I thought it's a bit like life - you just walk along and walk along sometimes not knowing where you're going, expecting things around the next corner and it's just more trees.
If you're lucky you do arrive at a destination. But sometimes the trip can be the point. I'm certainly grateful for this trip, and the walk through the trees.

I've just spent a few days at Pluscarden Abbey. A most tranquil place. 'Pax' on the gate welcomes all who enter here.

Down the driveway in the dappled light until suddenly! Behold, the Abbey.

There is a residence for women, St Joseph's house; and a residence for men, St Benedict's. We are welcome to attend any of the seven or so services that are held in the Abbey every day, including mass at 9 o'clock each morning. The services are in Latin, sung by the monks, we are able to follow along in the books, in English, if we so desire.

My room was above the entrance way to Saint Joseph's house. I had a great view of the courtyard and of the hills beyond. One day I even walked up to the top of that hill on the promise of a spectacular view of Lossiemouth on the other side. It did not disappoint.
